That tell of friends we leave yet hold so dear, And muse ho:c long remain the zcntings clear. Existence here is rooted deep in peace; The major chords of life have yet no cease. But past the threshold that zve now tread r er The tune is harsh and shrills of hate and zcar And men struck dozen by other men in fear. (The cries of them that fall sound ever near.) Yet it zee steadfast face the life ahead .hid learn, ourselves, to think and not be led, To plan and hope and. if our plans be vain. To build anezv and count experience gain. To turn from gaudy jezv ' lrx of the day .hid strive tozcard truth, though up a harder zvay.
