E' Wigwam fion President John F. Kennedy 1917-1963 The Seniors dedicate the Lamplighter to the late President of the United States, john F . Kennedy. Under God's providence john F . Kennedy stood before us as an exemplary Christian--as a man chosen not only to guide our nation's destiny, but also to sym- bolize and embody the youthful vigor and moral de- termination of the United States of America. The late President was a great politician, for he entered into public life with the same strength and confidence which characterized all his endeavors. By his election to the presidency, Mr. Kennedy brought our nation a giant step forward towards the achievement of its original commitment to grant equal justice to all men. Having entered into office, he struggled to erase the last disfigurement from the face of America--the denial of equal rights to some citizens because of racial prejudice . john F . Kennedy has been an inspiration to us by his practice of moral courage and his total dedication to American ideals. May the eternal flame be a constant reminder to our class and to all youth of the symbol of true patriotism . . the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans whom he expects to hold high this torch of truth despite apathy and opposition. We shall meet this challenge. 4

PRlNCIPAL'S MESSAGE My dear Seniors, How quickly the years pass! These four years have slipped by rapidly, and, what once seemed such a long period of time to you has passed before you ljfjilliglegjwit. Matters that once seemed momentous to you have shrunk in im- portance over 'the years. Great plansvof accomplishments that were to be have 15e'eitorg6Eeii'l Much has hapIETiEl iiilltHe'se'yeair's . You have grown up! S ' Ygogiihavelearned that much is accomplished by Time. Wounds are healedg wrongs and sbrfows'afreforgotteng catastrophes are softened. Time, however, is also relentless in its travel. Many of your wonderful intentions have been left un- fulfilled, many chores that were to be done somehow never came into reality. You have learned, I hope, that the present is the time for action. Plansfor the future are valueless unlesswthey some day become realities. Pr'0miSEesQ are worth nothni-gmuntily-V they are fulfilled. P ' Your life in the futurehwil'l'differ' little from that segment of it which you have just completed. Qodhas given each of you ajob to do--one that He has not en- Qpistedgto anyone .else--and He has-given you only one life time in which to do it. The remainder of this life will pass with the same sureness and the same 'swiftness as the past four years. The more you accomplish in the present as ou live it, the rless willpyou ,regret3f5y'5uS'review yearswpast. P ' ' YLq1nr,,,f,ptuf'e, success will ,depend greatly upon the habits and attitudes formed while here at this school. May you always have the wisdom and prudence to ptlace'jprope'r emph'a'si's an all your undertakings, remembering that it profits a man nothing if he gains the whole world and suffers the loss of his soul. Problems of this world shrink to a very small size when compared with the things of God. May you take with you from Asheville Catholic High School the realization that you were created for the service of God and will never be com- pletely happy unless you are fulfilling that purpose. . .All things are passingg God never changesg Patient endurance gains all thingsg Who possesses God is wanting in nothingg God alone suffices. fSt. T eresaj ZZ Z, fi.
