Before Christmas and at the Music Festival time, especially, the halls of Asheville Catholic resound with yOL111g voices. The students learn to appreciate the art of choral participation in sacred as well as secular music. Nothing lends so much to an assembly, a program, or a social event as music. Y Joseph Vetter, Dorothy Jacokes, Lisa Agguirre, Patrick McGahan Bishop Haid Chapter 5 of the Honor Society The National Honor Society was founded to stimulate high scholarship, constructive leadership, purposeful service and Worthy character of the students in the sec- ondary schools of this country. Students trained in these characteristics set forth more competently to ac- complish their life work in society. This year four from Asheville Catholic High School join the ranks. The Bishop Haid Chapter requires an average of85 in scholarship, the unanimous recommendation of the faculty, and student excellence in service, leadership, and character. Candidates fulfillingthe requirements are received into the societybya solemn induction ceremony. Membership is permanent but failure to meet requirements will result in expulsion. Expulsion from one chapter of the society deters mem- bership in any other chapter. Bishop l-laid Members are expected to bear the flaming torch of truth and to encourage others to follow its light. 43
