He is devoted to the common things which make us men — his family, his commun ity, his church, his work and his friends. He has given unselfishly of himself and his time to help students who are in a strange city or in a strange land find a place to live. He has spent his own money to help needy students and has gone out into the community to seek aid for them. He is never too busy to take time to help someone with a problem. He does all of these things in his own quiet manner, and because sometimes quiet people are overlooked in this world, we, the yearbook staff, wish to recognize this special man. The world needs more men like Jim Drummond. 17 CHRISTMAS PARTY Once again one of the highlights of the year was the annual Christmas party for underprivileged children given by the Student Senate. All the curricula lent a helping hand in sponsoring the children. And yes, there was a Santa Claus — thanks to Jim Drummond who did a fantastic job. After this was over it was hard to tell who had more fun, the students or the children. 18 Activities Activities 19 20 Activities r Activities 21 THE BEGINNING The Beginning: a time of looking forward for all who have accomplished their goals . Commencement is gathering knowledge , memories and experience together and reassembling them into goals for the future. Progressing is the simplest way to express the event. A new life; a new set of circumstances and relationships are to be every graduate ' s . . . but they have earned it! 22 Caren Parks Vice-President Tom Redding President Alpha Psi Omega is composed of those students interested in entering some type of business vocation. In addition, the club provides an excellent opportunity for business students to exercise their skills in aiding the school — such as sponsoring the used book sale to aid the scholarship fund, having toga parties , etc .... Jeanne Longshore — Secretary John Miller — Treasurer ALPHA PSI OMEGA 24 Organizations This might seem like a small group for a business club, but pictured here are the most dedicated members of Alpha Psi Omega. The other members were out taking care of business . Organizations 25 JADHA AND PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY JADHA and Preventive Dentistry are actively involved in teaching people to take proper care of their teeth by correct brushing, Flossing, and encouraging regular dental visits . 26 Organizations The Veterans ' Office is a service that is available to the students of Asheville-Buncombe Tech. Their office is located in the Maple Building. Paul Hensley, Veterans ' Service Officer, is available for the students to talk with. If for any reason the student needs the Veterans ' office they will be around on campus. Alice Earp (secretary — not pictured). They represent their curriculum and inform their classmates of new developments. They coordinate extra-curricular activities and provide their leadership in these activities . They plan the Homecoming dance, Miss A-B Tech dance and the Christmas party for underprivileged children. Much of the credit belongs to Mrs . Carpenter who offers supervision and guidance to the group. 30 Organizations Organizations 3 1 YEARBOOK STAFF Robert Hoglen — Administration Jim Drummond — Advisor Melinda Winchester — Activities Lisa Parker — Curriculum Bill Murdock — Photography 32 Organizations Janet Ruff — Co-Editor Brenda Wiley — Photography Tammy Warren — Organizations Angela Phillips Ron Hamrick — Darkroom Otis Agnew — Coordinator — Sports Organizations 33 John Miller Sf? We hope that the Institute will become a part of every life that it touches and that you will look back at this time in your life as a rewarding and satisfying experience. The academic rigor of the Institute is difficult but you will be prepared to take your place in the occupational world. As you leave we hope you will go with a good feeling and with pride in what you have accomplished. We also hope that you will continue to support the Institute as the future brings advancement.
