Plans change, and we do not know whether we have seen the shape of things to come accurately or not. But we do feel that man errs al- ways on the side of too little vision rather than too much. A growing school grows tradition. During the past year, the students of Asheville-Buncombe have selected a class ring with a school seal and have chosen school colors of burgundy and gold. Also, Abner Teckins became the official mascot of this institution by vote of the student body. Abner Teckins is that quaint, tongue-in-cheek character who has appeared, like a friendly ghost, on the

pf 711 locations have been approved by the State Board of Education and by the De- partment of Administration subject to the approval of a proposal involving S214,000 of Appalachia funds. These are the facts of the dream as seen when our annual goes to press. As for the shape of the dream as it appears on our inside cover, the two story building pictured as occupying the space devoted to our parking lot is to house a hotel-motel and food service training facility, a new library, a data processing laboratory, a student lounge and additional classrooms. He has presided, in his quiet way, over registrationg he has availed himself-- very appreciatively indeed--of the so- licitous care of the students in our nurs- ing school: and, in general, he has been an interested observer of, and silent par- ticipant in, the activities of this insti- tution. As a good mountaineer, he typi- fies the sturdy independence of mind of the people from the coves and towns of this area. He stands for the application of common sense to practical and useful goals, and he is a reminder to us to take our work seriously but not ourselves.
