Q v Student activity room-where are the Student Council officers and sponsor work together as the big five. boys. Page Eighteen Look who's hungry again. The tradition of Student Council is deeply rooted at Asheboro High School. Through its of- ficers, elected by the students, Asheboro Higl affairs are largely controlled by them. The council is headed by a president, vice- president, secretary, and treasurer. These officers together with homeroom representatives, and theii advisor, Mr. Ralph M. Hodges, make up the Stu dent Council. At the core of the student government is the honor system. The fact that our honor system Workl can be seen by the most casual visitor. It is ou aim eventually to pay tribute to honor in the class room. It is the objective that ultimately we cal hope to attain-even during examinations. This organization takes full responsibility fo enforcing the code of honor, respect, and democ racy. In order to do this We endeavor to promoti a sense of personal growth in students and to adop only the regulations that merit the approval of botl faculty and students.

Chief among the values which the social studies program con- tributes to the individual and to the school progranxis the de- velopment of the ability to meet situations that involve social re- lationships. The development of being historically mindedg an awareness of the interdepen- dence between man and his vironmentg that democracy the fundamental pattern for group living in America are the phases of practical emphasis. Ultimately the particular ob- jective of the program is to get the student to see the world about him as a place in which he lives and works, and to get him to assume or it a better place -for and oduns.1luough a study of peace
