CALLS S IAS TQ Four years ago a heavy cloud descended on “‘ole”’ Asheboro Hi; namely, a new class of ‘green’ freshmen. We were scared, yet thrilled to be high students at last. Now that we are ready to graduate, we are going to miss the school, the teachers, and our fellow-classmates. Lcoking back over the years, we remember many delightful things—the thrill of entering high school; our first annual (We nearly read all the words off the pages); our class rings (we went around waving our hands at every one for months), the excitement of planning and attending the Junior-Senior prom (We danced on clouds amid the beautiful decorations which carried out the theme of Stardust, completely forgetting the work and headaches of giving the dance) ; that wonder- ful Junior play, in which June Cheek, Eleanor Sue Allen, Jean Stafford, Joan Cross, Jo Anne Craven, Ermel Lee McPherson, Imogene Cox, Ronald Morgan, Ned Beeker, Gilbert Lane, and Marvin Galloway made up the cast. Perhaps we are more partial to this year because it is Our last; yet it has really been wonderful. At the first assembly we were given the privilege of sitting at the front of the auditorium, and march- ing out while all the other students stood. Cer- tainly this was a great thrill, which we had long looked forward to. Throughout the entire four years we have had excellent leadership. In our Sophomore year we 30 elected Howard Seawell, President; Bobby Bur- rows, Vice-President; Betty Lou Kearns, Secretary; and Frank Cole, Treasurer. Our Junior year Howard Seawell was again elected President, with Ned Beeker as Vice-President, Jo Anne Craven as Secretary, and Marcia Drake as Treasurer. For the final year, when we knew we must have good and dependable leadership, we chose for our President, Bobby Burrows; for our Vice-President, Ned Beeker; for our Treasurer, Betty Lou Kearns; and for our Secretary, Sue Dorsett. In 1946, our first year in high school, Mr. Guy B. Teachey was our principal. When he became superintendent of the city school system the next year, Mr. George W. Holmes, III became princi- pal. He remained with us two years. Last year he resigned in order to accept a position as assistant professor at U. N. C. Mr. Hatcher P. Story then became principal. About the middle of the school year we selected senior superlatives, colors, mascots, motto, and flower. Colors: Red and White. Mascots: Carol McCrary, Sam Rich. Motto: “Upon The Sea of Life, We Venture Unafraid.” Flower: Carnation. These years have been fun. Perhaps in later years, we shall look upon them as the best years of our lives. They will always hold a very promi-
