I reshmen are always green. Yes. aint we certainly played our part in making this state- ment true. Miss Sue Brewer. Miss Virginia Harker. Miss Mary Moffat. and Miss Mabel Robert- son were our homeroom teach- ers. OCTOBER The Freshman Initiation was loads o f t'un -- even w e thought so. We wore our cloth- ing wrong side out. aml grew accustomed. by this time, to be- ing addressed as Rats by the higher classmen. NOVEMBER We tinally settled down to work and the ditTerent class officers were elected. Several of our classmates went out for basket- ball. while others joined the va- rious clubs. NVQ now felt just a little lnore worthy uf being called a part of the high school. DECEMBER How short the months had been! They never passed away so quickly before. aml there it was time for our Christmas holi- days. Everyone was the same old way--just running over with the Christmas Spirit. JANUARY We were all glad to get back to school after a two weeks' vacation, and we began the new year. Soon we took our Mid- term Examinations. which were ditferent from any we had ever taken before: yet l think most of us found they were rather easy. and different from what we had expected them to be. FEBRUARY We were grown up now, so away went the valentine box. in which we had t'ound so much fun previously. Instead we set- tled down for a second semester of work. MARCH Our schedules were changed ami the school day cut down to tive periods instead of six. Once again there was confusion among us. as there was the tirst ot' the year, in changing classes. APRIL The Junior Class sponsored the Sample Bazaar. and Freshmen added a touch to it by present- ing a pantomime. XVe also made several posters aml bulletins to advertise this event. M AY Our tinal examinations were taken. and then almost four months of vacation awaited us. How good that sounded. yet somehow--well. we really were enjoying our high school life. 1938-1939 SEPTEMBER XVhen the bell rang to begin the school year of 15138 and 1939. one hundred aml eight ot us entel'ed the Sophomore Class. It seemed very. very good to be called something besides Fresh- men. In fact. it seemed so good that we considered it an honor. and played a large part in mak- ing t'un ot' the Freshmen. OCTOBER Our Sophomore advisors were Mr. Marshall Cox, Mrs. J. G. Prevette. and Miss Eleanor VVil- lougbby. Our class chairmen were Lu Ellen Routh, Tyler Lisk. ami George Creech. NVQ: did not have so much trouble in tinding our class rooms as we had had the year before. and it did not take us so long to settle down to work. NOVEMBER Football was the main sport along now. though basketball practice started, and there were again several representatives from our class. We reorganized the different clubs. including several new ones. All ot' us were quite interested in our school activities. DECEMBER A whole two weeks' holiday! Christmas comes but once a year. and so we all made good cheer. XVe really didn't know just how good had been the cheer until examinations came the next lnonth. . . JANUARY . . . And here we were greet- ed by Mid-term Examinations. We tried to dn our best. never- theless. and found that they were not so hard to conquer. FEBRUARY The basketball season was in full swing. and by this time not a single new year's resolu- tion that we had made was left unbroken. MARCH Baseball took the place of bas- ketball. and several members of our class took part in the sport. The days were growing longer and it certainly was good to know that spring was just around the corner. APRIL Things were running along smoothly now. with just one more month of school. Still there were those tlnal exams to be thinking about. MAY Once again we parted from our classmates for the summer. This had been another happy school year. and we were looking for- ward to the next one. !1941.A 1-344-012 6 Cfcldzi icw 1939-1940 SEPTEMBER OCTOBER At the beginning of the Junior year. our number had dropped to one humlred. Our class ad- visors were Miss t'ornelia Ayers. Miss Eleanor Willoughby. aml Mr. James Schreyer. Scott Jen- nings was our class president: Sara Redding, vice-president: Jean Blalock. secretary: ami Marjorie Hill, treasurer. The rirst thing that entered our minds was the big event we had looking forward to tor sq. been long. the Junior-Senior Recep- tion. XVe began thinking of dit'- tcrent ways aml means of tinan cing this atfair, aml found that it was not such an easy task as one might think. NOVEMBER Seven members oi' our class re- ceived invitations to become members of our chapter ol' the National Beta Club. They were: Marjorie Hill. Margaret l'aisley. l'au?ine Ham-oek. Edith Morgan. llarnestine Mabc. .Iewcl Kearns. ami l.ucille Trogdon. Football was well umlerway at this tilne ami the basketball season had opened. DECEMBER Almost halt' the year was over: aml although we had sponsored several plays for the school, we were not making a very good headway in acquiring that much needed bank account for our Junior-Senior Reception. JANUARY Those Mid-term Examinations rolled arouml once again. This time they seemed more impor- tant than they had been before. t'or all ot' us were hoping to be Seniors the next year. v FEBRUARY YVe had several unexpected va- cations this month because of snow. Believe it or not. we were really anxious to get back to school, In fact, there was much to be done. aml not very much time to do it in. So we were glad when the big snow melted ami school reopened. MARCH This was when the disputed and arguments just about reached their peak. We could never agree on anything suggested for our Junior-Senior Reception. aml our class meetings never had very good results. The Sen- iors were probably getting afraid that they were not going to be given a reception. APRIL Some waye-but please don't ask lne how-we managed to have our reception the tifth of April. As everything else about this time was Gone XVith The Wind . we used this theme in carrying out our decorations and entertainment. All present seemed to enjoy themselves so well that the work and worry- ing in preparing for this oc- MAY I,ast minute touches were being put here and there. We were to play an important part in the commencement exercises this year. The Junior Marshals were: Fred Kearns, Lu Ellen Routh. Wescott Moser. Marjorie Hill. MacDonald King, Willys Hoop- er. aml Jean Blalock. The .lun- ior girls gave a rlag drill ami sang two songs on Senior Class :asion was completely forgotten. Night. 1940 - 1941 SEPTEMBER OCTOBER NOVEMBER Our Senior Class was one of the largest in the history of the school. XVe set out with eighty- four members. Our class ofticers were We-scott Moser. president: Macllonald King. vice-president: Pauline Hancock. secretary: and Mabel King. treasurer. Miss Massa Lambert and Miss Vir- ginia Barker were our class ad- visors. One of our tirst class meetings was for the purpose of select- ing our rings. It did not take us long to decide on the kiml we wanted, although we had been looking forward to select- ing them for almost eleven years. We could hardly believe that we were really getting our class rings. Five members of our class were taken into the Beta Club-Lou- ise Dorsett. Frances Copple. Virginia Lee Allred. Lucy Leigh Lowdermilk. aml Margaret Alex- amler. We enjoyed the football games. and everyone seemed to be interested in the different school activities. . DECEMBER Our rings tinally came. How good it seemed to show them to our ditferent friends. WVe were all happy ami excited ov- er them. This helped to make our two weeks' Christmas holi- days even more cheerful. The Journalistie Club had now start- ed publishing a school paper. .-isli-Hi-Clint, which everyone en- joyed reading. Lucy Leigh Lowdermilk was editor-in-chief. JANUARY The Annual Staff began work- ing very hard. Pictures were taken of the various clubs. classes, and other school groups. Idxaminations also came this month: it' we didn't pass these. we were really sunk , FEBRUARY Our class superlatives were cho- sen aml the different committees were appointed. Our class meet- ings became noted for their noise aml little accomplishment. Basketball games were very amusing. as we were having some close scores along now. MARCH Spring was here at last. Base- ball took its turn in the school sports. aml furnished us much fun. YVe began thinking about our Senior Play. which was to be given soon. We realized that our high school days were about over. APRIL The Junior Class gave us the Junior-Senior Reception. Saying that everyone enjoyed it would not begin to tell you what a de- lightful tilne we had. XVe also had several other entertain- ments which were lots of fun . M A Y Vi'hat a funny feeling we have during these closing days. Even with the arrival of those long- awaited caps ami gowns, we are a little sad at the thought of leaving school. Of course, we cannot leave without giving our best wishes to all of our school- lnates aml the faculty members. aml we wish to think them for what they have done for us.
