gg 'I'Illi ASHBURIAN C O N F E R E N C E S iiif..-xo.iie.sTif.Rs' coNifif1Ri1Nt:ii The annual meeting of the Headmasters' Association was held at l,ower Canada College. Montreal, on january the 3rd, 4th and Sth with the Headmaster, Dr. D. S. Penton serving as host and president. Nearly all Independent Schools were represented. Ordinary business matters occupied the first part of the morning. ln the afternoon Mr. Colin Macdougall, registrar of McGill University, discussed University Entrance problems with special reference to Mc- Ciill's plans for the future. ln the evening Mr. C. T. Teakle, Supervisor of French for the schools of Quebec lead a discussion on the teaching of French. Both of these sessions were attended by representatives of the Canadian Headmistresses' Association. The annual meeting of the Canadian Foundation For Independent Boys' Schools was held the following morning. The Chairman of the Foundation and the Executive Director reported on progress to date. Although definite success had been met by the Foundation the Chair- man indicated that Corporations were not interested in donating as generously as was first anticipated. The Foundation will continue to operate but further success is likely to be of a modest nature. Professor D. C. Munroe of McGill was the Guest Speaker at the closing dinner and spoke on the Commonwealth Education Conference which was held at Oxford in july 1959. As usual the greatest value of the Conference seemed to be in the meeting of headmasters and the informal discussions on school problems which continued far into the night. ENG LISH CONFERENCE The annual meeting of the Association was held on April 18, 1960, at Trinity College School, Port Hope, Ontario. lnteresting and in- formative addresses were delivered by Mr. Lewis Evens on Drama in the Schools . and Mr. li. C. Cayley on Aspects of English Teaching in New lingland Preparatory Schools . lt is unfortunate that the at- tendance left something to be desired, because it was one of the best programmes we have enjoyed. Through this medium, may we express our thanks to Dr. Ketchum and Mr. llumble for the organization of the meeting and for the en- joyable entertainment. The following schools were represented: Appleby College CDavid Smith. ll. C. Ilartlwicltig Ashbury College CA. B. Beleherbg Bishops
