C t HIS year the Ashburn Cheerleaders participated in all home and away games and did an excellent job of keeping the school spirit at fever pitch. Several new cheers were adopted and old ones were improved with different routines. Again the girls showed their ambition of using stunts in cheers. The seven Cheerleaders owe some cr.edit for being an outstanding group to Mrs. Kelley who directed the squad throughout the year. West ''Annie Mae’' SNAPSHOTS 31 32 33 CLASS HISTORY 0F the twenty-three members of the Senior Class, seven who began in ’39 are finishing in '50 without ever straying from these halls. Eight of our number began in ’39, moved away and rejoined us at intervals and eight entered our lists along the way. Mrs. Mary Raines began our instruction and training. There were many in the class but only fifteen of the original group are graduating. The seven who have had all eleven years under the roof-tree of A. H. S. are: Duane Akin, Mary Berry, Reginald Cox, Vivian Ellerbee, Bo Miller, Nel- lie Ruth Smith and Bobby Suggs. Peggy Lanneau left us in the 2nd and came back to us in the 7th. Betty Joy Scott and Helen Sego moved away in the 4th and rejoined us in the 6th and 8th. We were joined by Mary Florence Porter in the 6th grade. Conrad Story who began in ’39 moved to Savannah and rejoined us in the 7th. Katie Ruth Hardin moved away in the 4th grade and rejoined in the 8th. Willene Watson left in the second grade returned in the 4th and Faye Wilson left us for a short time in both the third and the fourth. - (i A ’ ■J Hank Raines became one of us in the second grade when Miss Ella Jack- son was our mentor, left in the seventh and returned in the eighth. Mrs. C. E. Thrasher guided us through the 3rd grade. Mrs. Effie Whatley, the fourth. We met Miss Blanche Cockrell in the fifth grade and Miss Corrie Johnson in the sixth. In the seventh grade Miss Lucy Wade introduced us to diagramming and American History. The 8th grade marked the beginning of a new era--High School with all its varied activities! Doris Collins and Hazel Ireland were new members in this grade. We found it confusing to have a teacher for each subject. Miss Elizabeth What- ley and Miss Evelyn Griner were our homeroom teachers. In the 9th grade, Miss Florence Baxter was our homeroom teacher. Sara Adams, Richard McGraw, Wyatt Smith, Junior Smith, and Wayne Speight joined our ranks. Mrs. Louis Spivey was our 10th grade homeroom teacher. It was in this grade that Mary Florence Porter and Nellie Ruth Smith were on the State Champion Debating Team. It was here that Hank, Wayne, Conrad, and Rich- ard covered us with glory at the District Track Meet. In the 11th grade we again have Miss Baxter as our homeroom teacher. During this year we have worked tirelessly at our responsibilities. We played basketball, worked on the annual and prepared for the District Meet. Our days here are limited. The end is in sight. Graduation looms large on our horizon. Life--here we come! 35 (F SENIOR WILL {-if e, the Senior Class of Ashburn High School, City of Ashburn, State of W Georgia, in the year Nineteen Hundred and Fifty, being of sound mind and body and being about to venture forth into the world, do hereby devise this as our last will and testament: Item I.
