Membership therein signi- fies that the student has been desig- nated by the high school authorities as worthy of special recognition be- cause of outstanding attainment and promise. BOYS’ BASKETBALL We have been very proud of our basketball team since practice began in October. While there are not too many victories to celebrate, we can feel a satisfaction in the interest shown by the boys; a large number came out for practice. The sportsman- ship exhibited by the team on all occasions proved the worth of athletics in character development. We have a few victories to our credit. Sycamore, Rebecca and a tie with Vienna. The team was not made up of seniors, but contained a large number of underclassmen, so we can count on a strong basketball club next year. Mr. Sam Jones Coach b rout row: Hay Bridges. For a while this labor seemed lost but the climax showed their labor had not been in vain. The highlight of the season was the defeat of the team's most bitter rival. Syca- more, by the one-sided score of 46 to 19. This success was re- peated by another drubbing of Sycamore later in the season. Defeats by other teams were easier to accept in view of these victories. Essay Contest, 1945, Editor- in-Chief of Ace. ANITA ROBINSON One of Five State Winners of $50 Bond, Young Peoples’ Division, Georgia Power Company Essay Contest. PATSY MURRAY Assistant Editor of Ace, and most capable journalist. DOLORES LAW Editor-in-Chief of Blue and Gold Echoes, and President of Senior Class. 31 We 3 °r9 et Of the thirty-two boys and girls who started to school in the first grade back in the fall of 1935, only eight of them, Betty Jean Daniel, Patsy Murray, Dolores Law, Geneva Ross, Sarah Watson, Leon Bryan, Bobby Holland, and White Adams, have come all the way to be members of the class of '46. Along the way members of the class were dropped and gained until now we have eighteen seniors who will receive diplomas in May. During our first year of school we were moved to the Baptist Church while the school building was being remodeled. Our teacher that year was Mrs. J. C. McKnight. We started the second year of school in the new school building with Miss Ella Jackson as our teacher. In the third grade we were taught by Mrs. Eudora Shingler, who is now Mrs. C. E. Thrasher. In Mrs. L. R. Whatley’s class, the fourth grade, we lost Polly Mann and gained Louise Harwell. The next year we were in the fifth grade under Miss Blanche Cockrell. Betty Davison and Whit Chambliss, two of the present seniors, joined us in Miss Jane Pitts' class, the sixth grade. In the seventh grade Nellie Paramore, John Bailey, and James Haley joined our ranks. This grade was taught by Miss Mary Bennett, who later joined the Women’s Marine Corps. The next year we were introduced to the rush and hurly-burly ways of high school. Having a different teacher for every subject confused us. That year we were joined bv Lauta Averett, Clotheile Kennedy, Carolyn Lumpkin and Ray Bridges. Our home room teachers that year were Miss Marion Tharpe and Miss Mary Hall. In the ninth grade our numbers had decreased to twenty-seven. That year we gained R. C. Watson. Mrs. John D. Raines and Mrs. II. A. Miller were our home room teachers. The tenth grade was probably the grade most enjoyed by the class of ’46. That year the school entered the district meet and won honors. The Junior-Senior Prom will never be forgotten by any of us. Miss Florence Baxter, who is onr senior home room teacher, was also our home room teacher in the junior class. During our senior year, we assumed the responsibilities and privileges of being the leaders of the school. We played basketball, worked diligently on the Hal- lowe’en Carnival, and took the lead in publishing an annual, to name a few of our numerous senior activities. Our high school days are rapidly drawing to a close. We do not fear the future, but look forward to it with the hope that it will hold pleasures and achievements similar to these we have experienced during our happy school days. 32 BEST WISHES TO SENIORS OF 46 + May Your Future Be One Full of Success ROOBIN'S Cordele, Georgia Since 1889 + •+ Compliments of GIBBS AUTO BODY REPAIR SHOP GENERAL AUTO REPAIRS PAINTING - WELDING - GLASSES Cordele Georgia 33 Compliments of M ITCH ELL-STEW ART HARDWARE COMPANY “Your Dependable Source of Supply Since 1922” HARDWARE AND FURNITURE Phone 22 Ashburn, Georgia +■ ■+ Compliments of ASHBURN PEANUT COMPANY BUYERS AND SELLERS OF SPANISH AND RUNNER PEANUTS Phone 103 Ashburn, Georgia + • -+ 34 + Compliments of MCKENZIE MOTOR COMPANY DEALERS IN FORD AND MERCURY Phone 87-J Ashburn.
