The Morehead is a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Girls' and Boys' State - Cindy Friday and Dave Costner were chosen for Girls' and Boys' State in the summer of 1976. They spent a week of studying govemment with other students from North Carolina. National Merlt Semi-Finalists - Steve Griflin and Eric Frederick were named National Merit Semi-Finalists by showing out- standing scholastic achievement. its

On December 4, 1976, ten girls participated in the Miss Ashbrook pageant. The theme Remember was carried out through art work, reflecting past winners of the contest, and recollections of past Ashbrook events. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Mike McKay, WBTV weatherman and 'Those Were The Years host. The girls were judged on the basis of talent, evening gown competition, sportswear competition, and judges' interviews. 1. Dewanna Williamson, after she won the title of Miss Ashbrook 1977. 2. Contestant WS, Pam Patrick, performed a dramatic reading ulphegmia ln Aulis, by Euripedes. 3. Contestant 43, Rebecca Moore, reinacted a scene from The Diary of Anne Frank. 4. Contestant 454, Melanie Davis, performed a gymnastic dance to Part-Time Love. 5. Miss Ashbrook Contestants gave a new look to the production humber. 7 6. Contestant 46, Cindy Friday, played the opening theme from Tschaikouskys Concerto in B flat minor. 7. Contestant 41, Linda Owens, presented a jazz routine to The Nutrockerf' 8. Contestant 19, Karen Rutland, fourth runner-up, sang I Honestly Love You. 9. Contestant WZ, Rose Hall, third runner-up, sang The Way We Were in the talent competition. 10. Contestant 410, Carol Matthews, second runner-up, performed a jazz dance to All That Jazz. 11. Contestant if 7, Allison Wilson, first runner-up, gave an interpretive dance to Give Me One Dream To Believe ln. 12. Contestant 45, Dewanna Williamson, Miss Ashbrook 1977, sang The Savior ls Waiting. 13. Linda Owens was chosen Miss Congeniality 1977. 14. Miss Ashbrook 1976, Karen Laver performed a ballet to Nadia's Theme.
