Bernard Buyse, the six-foot, two-inch blonde, is our Foreign Exchange Student from Belgium. His hometown, Erps-Kwerps, is a small village located approximately ten miles from Brussels. Bernard's native language is Dutchg however, he also speaks German, French, Spanish, and English. if . Bernard enjoys such activities as snowskiing, tennis and photography. He likes all types of music, but the group San- qiemay is his favorite. At Ashbrook he is a member Jofjthe Spanish, French, VTR crew, SCA, and American Field Service Clubs. He also claims a honorary membership in Key Club. Bernard makes his American Home with Doug McSpad- den, an Ashbrook Student. Ashbrook is truly fortunate to have Bernard Buyse as one of its students. The cans collected were distributed throughout Gaston County to needy families during Christmas. The SCA sponsored the project which began December 1 with Julie Machnik, the second uice-president, in charge. Class and homeroom competition and challenges from the ROTC played a ma- jor part in the success of Kans for Kids. The project was highlighted by an assembly with Major Sti1ley's being the honored guest. The grand total of cans collected was 11,616. Seniors won with a total of 5,279 cans. Sophomores placed with 3,596 cans,d Juniors trailed with 2,741 cans. ROTC contributed 1110 cans. 10-V was the winning homeroom with a total of 1114 cans. Q
