call O Q27 -- Mr. Clyde Dawald Principal Arvin High School rincipafo eooage The launching of three earth satellites in the last few months offers dramatic evidence that we are living in an age of rapid change and spectacular progress. lt is possible that mankind is now on the threshold of exploring outer space and eventually reaching other planets of the universe, and if so, these developments could create profound changes in the lives of all of us, Less romantic but much more realistic are the scientific, technological, and sociological forces that so vitally affect every phase of our daily lives and to which we must learn to adiust as best we can. Our modern social, political and economic structure has become so complex that the indifferent, indolent and unprepared persons will find themselves unable to compete successfully with those who have made an effort to keep pace with our rapid progress in all areas of human endeavor. It is my hope that you have taken full advantage of the educational opportunities available to you at Arvin High School in such a way that you will be prepared to meet successfully the chal- lenge of our time and thus be assured of a life of satisfying experiences for yourself as well as gratifying service for others.
