Each department paid tribute to Dr. Jack Individually. Entertainment was provided by Monte Otto, Dixie Norquest, Mark Thompson, and Gary O'Connor. Gifts were presented to Dr. J., ranging from gift certificates for elegant dining to prank gifts. Good old Dr. Jack Oh we'd like to bring you back The place ain't the same Now ain't it a shame And who's gonna rub Carol's back Well the coaches are drunk And the halls smell of pot The teachers left early No cars in the lot So he props his feet up On his shiny wood desk It's a successful day at Arvada West Oh Dr. Ohanian had his reason for change And who'd ever question God's right to rearrange But I can't help thinking with a tear in my eye When a Polak replaces an Italian You can kiss the neighborhood goodby. VOCAL SHOWCASE OFFICERS 1977-78 PAUL BOWLES, PRESIDENT TAMI OSBORNE, VICE-PRESIDENT JUDI AUSTIN, SEC.-TREASURER Homecoming started for Arvada West on Monday Sep- tember 19 with a Wild World of Sports Day where every- one participated in dressing as their favorite athlete. Tuesday, Arvada West students experienced the Time Machine where costumes ranged from cave men all the way to the future robots or green things. Wednesday all mourned for our poor, unfortunate opponent, the Lake- wood Tigers, for we all knew they would never survive in battle against the Mighty Wildcats. Thursday students showed their spirit by wearing the school colors of purple and white. Thursday evening was the night we were all waiting for. The Lakewood Tigers bowed to the Wildcats 20-0. Festivities concluded Friday evening with couples dancing to the mellow sounds of the Starfire band. “ Md Now Something 43 hdidates- Left tl look Ed Coulter |t Mike o:Right:pa tafed- Marl rr Senior Queen Candidates- Left t Finholm, JMIjZink, Sue Wagner Maureen Junior Esc rt Ca Robinson, Billy ■ x: r ophomore Escoi ■WWz% Janet dates- Sa ez Kell ft to Right Sandy ates- Left to Right Mark Swallow, Bret LaQgardia, Bob Young 45 ruDf«U CMffftons Ml camamm r£ rR«cK cmms MR CIRLS men Ud : Zfteatre Productions The summer production of THE APPLE TREE was directed by Charles A. The inside of the German rooms are remodeled to look like the inside of a ski lodge in the Alps, and the French room looks like rural France today. Spanish, French, German, Russian, and Latin are the languages taught at Arvada West. There are only two foreign language clubs, Spanish and German. The foreign language de- partment features an annual International Dinner, sponsored by Vivian Vargas. Students make fea- tured foods from the languages in which they are learning. The instructors for foreign language are, Tom Young, German, Diane Noonan, French, Cruz Valenzuela, Spanish, Vivian Var- gas, Spanish, Mary Malone, Latin, and Dave Kinsey, Russian. 171 MOMS ECONOMICS The Home Economics department offers classes ranging from Knits to basic Cooking. Miss Anderson and Mrs. Hosman provide excellent training in a wide area. Vocationally certified, they prepare our on-the-job prospects. Mrs. Grauberger adds sparks of enthusiasm to a course in business law, which she's well qualified to teach. Mr. Klatt not only coaches football, but coaches his typing students to high goals, too. He'll have help this year in teaching the basic concepts of business when Mr. Dowdell, our new basketball coach joins the staff. Mr. Dowdell will also teach Busi ness Law and Accounting. Mrs. Massey, most of the time teaches business (rest of the time English) is also qualified in all business teaching areas. Since she's also assigned as the Yearbook sponsor, she keeps herself busy. Mr. Dalton and Mr. Quinones, our capable Distributive Education teachers prepare many students in the skills of marketing, advertising sell- ing and human relationships. Mr. Dalton, this year, is providing his skills as a teacher of accounting, too. You may see some strange looking notes around, words with some of the letters missing — that's ABC steno script. Useful to college-bound stu- dents learning to take notes that no one else can read. Another part of the business program is the on-the-job training classes offered by Mrs. Whi-te, coordinator of the program. This program starts in the junior year, and you have the opportunity to put all these skills to use, get paid, and receive credit for the course. First they're here. Then they're gone Never for a reason. Once you get to know them They seem to fade away. But at this time, To all my friends I would like to say That if people could be Like my friends have been to me Then I think we'd find that long, lost love again. And I'd like for you to see What each of you has meant to me. So this song is sung for all my friends. People will love If they only have a purpose. And even then. Without a friend It's only on the surface. But when they find that someone That they can reach out to. Then they have touched, And they have loved. As I have loved all you. And if people could be Like my friends have been to me Then I think we'd find that long, lost love again. And I'd like for you to see What each of you has meant to me. So this song is sung for all my friends. Many years from now We'll remember only faces. A shining smile, A tiny tear. All behind the hazes. But each of you has touched me In a very special way I ask you now. Each one of you, Remember what I say. That if people could be Like my friends have been to me Then I know we'd find that long, lost love again And I'd like for you to see What each of you has meant to me. So this song is sung for all my friends — So this song is sung for you, my friends ... Tami Osborne Class KJ NJ - r_- THE CIRCLE My life is a circle, it spins round and round. One minute it's up, and the next one it's down. In unending cycle with you in the midst Encircling love, emotion, and bliss. You'll enter my life, then I'll turn and you're gone. Unable to grasp it the circle goes on. A mass of confusion that slowly will fade. Then the pressures renew and continue their plague. A circle that's taken my life in control, If it only would break, and set free my soul. But each time the circle seems to come to an end. You'll appear and the circle starts over again. Sometimes I wonder if I know how I feel, Are my dreams just a dream, or could they be real? The battle I fight is with the pain in my heart From a wound that began with Cupid's small dart. But I know that with time the wounds will all mend, For sooner or later the circle must end.
