Arvada reports 47% daily Attendants , which proves that 96% of the students at Arvada prefer holes in donuts to holes in walls. 79 8 33% of the students at Arvada are talented. The other 67% just perform. 81 ‘Charlie Brown’ Opens Drama Season Eight performances of 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,' were produced by the theatre department, five of which were produced at Arvada High School. Two of the performances were enacted at Arapahoe Community College and one at Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs. The two different casts consisted of the following: CHARLIE BROWN Pat Atkinson Cindy Bellah SNOOPY Charlie Wolf LINUS Dwight George Carl Hayne LUCY Janine Haycraft Susan Prang SCHROEDER Gale Fulte Ed Larson PATTY Jean Haller Melanie Swartz Four Boys From Europe Like Sports, Music, Girls Greece, Austria, Finland, and Norway have all been represented this year by foreign exchange students. John, Gerhard, Pertti, and Erik all like Arvada High and its activities. Their views on life have been broadened and they hope they have given something to Arvada High in return. John would like to stay in the United States. He thinks life in America is free and easy. John likes American girls, parties, and a variety of sports. Gerhard likes to sing and write. He also plays three instruments. Gerhard prefers German because he finds English very binding. Pertti says he is very happy to be here and finds he likes everything in the United States. He enjoys skiing, soccer, and tennis. Erik enjoys skiing and sailing more than anything. He really likes to get away in the mountains. He would like to meet many people before he leaves America. Six per cent of the students at Arvada High are foreign. Twenty-three per cent are students and the other 71 per cent can be exchanged. John Contogiannis Greece Gerhard Petsovits Austria Pertti Larvanto Finland Erik Rolla Norway 85 86 The Arvada Senior High School-Within-a-School Program is an experiment in alternative education. There are five teachers, Mr. Eckley, Mr. Manning, Mr. Patera, Mr. Stor, and Mrs. Pierson; one coordinate-counselor, Mrs. Franz and two resource teachers, Mrs. Eylar and Miss Murray. They teach 125 sophs, juniors, and seniors, classes that vary from environment and ecology to physiology. One of the unique advantages of being enrolled in SWS is the field trips. SWS works with Colorado Outward Bound, and the students will take trips to Sante Fe, New Mexico, a Hopi Indian Village in Arizona and backpacking on the Crestone Mountain. A raft trip on the Green River also is planned. The three components of SWS are self awarness, environment education and career education. This gives SWS students the chance to get away from the day to day classroom routine and experiment in new fields. 87 omo T lfo 89 Skiing Arouses Enthusiasm Among the many recreational activities of the school year, we had the brown-faced ski enthusiasts many of whom also sported casts. Arapahoe, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, and Winter Park were a few of the slopes frequented by Arvada's skiing population. Although the season was lacking in snow, it definitely provided many hours of excitement, thrills and traumatic moments! 90 I said, Quit hanging around. Tag! You're it! Can't we sit down and talk this over? I can't help it if I don't love you anymore. The higher you get, the better you feel. What opens up your eyes in surprise? BUTTERFINGERS! 93 For behold short years pass away, and I am walking in a path by which I shall not return.
