REDSKIN 59 ARVADA SENIOR HIGH ARVADA, COLORADO Dedicated ... To our Mothers and Fathers--whose interests have been in tire improvement of our lives--whose love and encouragement have been inspirational--and whose never ending sacrifices have made possible these three years of high school--we respectfully dedicate The Redskin of 1959. The Chinese have a proverb which reads A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” Our first step at Arvada Senior High was in learning that to work is enjoyable and rewarding and that the real reward life offers is the thrill of sound achievement. The graphic history of this school year as presented in this yearbook depicts the dreams of our young people working, learning, and living together as friendly neighbors believing in the dignity and worth of each other. It is my hope that, throughout the year, these young students have stored away a rich cargo of educational experience. 3 --Mr. Harland L. R. Paschal, Principal Through These Doors .. The B squad’s record this year was five wins, one loss and one tie. The Redskins won their first five consecutive games before being tied by Aurora in a tight ballgame. The final game of the year saw the Redskins defeated by Lakewood 13-7 in a real dog fight. The high light of the season was a come-from-behind 15-14 victory over Golden in the last two minutes of the game. Many fine prospects from this years B squad should form a good nucleus for the varsity next year. 103 -JAi w Morris Crane Harry Dildine Dave Helt Rich Jackson Larry Chavez Rom Barnes The 1958 football season was one of the most successful in the history of Arvada High School. The Redskins started the season by defeating Adams City, champions of the Adams-Arapahoe League. 12-0. The following Week, Greeley, champion of the Northern League, belted the Redskins 21-0. On September 19, the Redskins regained the victory trail by thumping Cherry Creek 19-0. The Redskins defeated Westminister 6-0 on September 26. Wheatridge was the first league game for the Redskins, and Arvada blasted the Farmers 28-0. Golden's Demons provided the opposition for the Redskin's Homecoming. and in one of the toughest games of the season, the Redskins emerged victorious 7-0. The following week, the Redskins put a damper on Aurora's Homecoming by trouncing the Trojans 19-0. The stage was set for the League championship showdown with the Lakewood Tigers on November 7. Playing before one of the largest crowds in the history of Arvada, the Redskins beat Lakewood 25-12, and sewed up their first League Championship since 1926. The 1958 Redskins provided five all-conference players: Rom Barnes, Pat Pine, Dick Meyers, Clark Wollenweber, and Don Meador. Several firsts were established by the 1958 Redskins. For the first time since 1947 they defeated Golden, and their victory over Lakewood was the first time since 1945. In the final game of the year, the Redskins played South Denver for the right to play in the finals of the State AAA Football Championship. In a game played at Arvada, the South Rebels had too much manpower and defeated the Redskins 26-6.
