JUNIOR CLASS Among their busy activities—winning second prize in the Harvest Festival float contest, producing the fine junior play, Stop Thief, and sponsoring the junior-senior prom — this class is well qualified in leadership, sportsmanship, and ability for their senior year. DON WEBER, Vice-president GOLDIE LEE, Secretary i LAWRENCE MISKOL, President f 18] The Sophomores have done exceptionally well this year. In the Harvest Festival we found the Sophomores, and their clever float which was titled The Housing Shortage. Starting out with only $1.00 at the first of the year, they raised their fund to $80.00 at the end of the first semester by selling at the games. The Sophomores gave an assembly in February in which the students displayed their talents. JOHN COPLEY. President; LEONARD KELLEY, Vice Pres.; BARBARA ROEP [ 19 J NACK. Secretary. MISS BURRUS. Sponsor GLENN MORRIS. President: DONNA SHAFFER. Vice President; JANEL MIN-GES. Secretary. This year found a group of ambitious and energetic freshmen holding up the ideals of Arvada High. During the Harvest Festival the Freshman Class was represented by a vegetable float and a confection stand. Then, with the coming of football, basketball, and wrestling, we found these up-and-coming freshies doing their bit behind coke, coffee, and hot dogs. St. Peter at the Gate, a laugh provoking assembly program, was presented by the freshmen in January. C 29 1 MUSIC Arvadans again have occasion to be proud of the Arvada High School band as they went to Boulder on October 18, for the Colorado University's fifth annual Band day, and against the competition of 25 bands from three states, they returned home with the first prize trophy which was given for marching, playing, and appearance. This is adequate proof that our band is one of the best marching and concert bands in Colorado. MUSIC DEPARTMENT ENSEMBLES Woodwind Sextet Carol Rahricht, Betty Mortis, Peggy Pickett, Fred Hale. Geraldine Brown, Shirley Hagen Clarinet Quintet Ruth Rhoads. Janel Minges, Sylvia Grove. Geraldine Brown. Shirley Hagen WHY NOT ASK THE HIGH SCHOOL ENSEMBLES TO PLAY SOME NUMBERS? The foregoing must have been a universal question among club members and program chairmen in Arvada this winter and spring for, since the groups were organized by Mr. Kehn in November, they have played for many local groups at various meetings. CHORUS Mr. Gahagan and his accompanist, Thelma Jordan have worked hard to get a chorus started. They have done a very fine job. A girls' triple trio was organized and they have sung in public several times. So far the chorus itself has not appeared before the public, but we are looking forward to the time in which they will be ready to do so. MR. GAHAGAN (Director) mm TWIRLERS Kickin The twirlers of A.H.S. made themselves the name of the High Stepping Majorettes when they made such an excellent showing in the marching contest at Boulder last fall. They have added greatly to the appearance of the band and are to be complimented on their fine work. SPONSORS PRESIDENT ED KEHN Gwen Clark did an excellent job of leading the band on their many exhibitions this year. She will also be the Band Majorette next year. Glennie Laughlin who was elected by the school to take over the job of Head Majorette this year, is also to be complimented on her fine v ork . Joyce Stiff, the first twirler mascot in the history of A.H.S., added much interest to the club this year. Incidentally. Joyce is the best twirler of the group. 132] MYRTLE WELSH GINGER KISER BAND Under the able direction of Edward Kehn, the Arvada Band has grown from 65 to 75 members and it has added greatly to the making of happy high school memories. Not only does this organization add to the spirit of A.H.S. at the football games, but also they are ever an important factor in all the civic parades and school functions, and they supply us with many concerts throughout the year. Scholarships were given to 20 members, for the purpose of enabling them to attend the band camp at Gunnison this summer. At the present, the Band is preparing to enter the Spring Festival in which w© know they will make an excellent showing. This organization is something that every member of this school should be proud of. CAROL RAHRICHT (President) MR. KEHN (Director) Marching along together (33) ORCHESTRA PEGGY PICKETT (President) Mr. Kehn, our beloved music master, has worked very hard to build up our Orchestra. Though it is still in the making, every member ol this organization should be congratulated upon their ability and effort put forth to furnish the fine music and entertainment presented to us at high school.
