The farce was built around the rescue of a pair of twins salvaged from the sea by a young bookkeeper, Ernest Blakely, who then tries to get away from the publicity that would naturally follow such a deed of braverv. Ine constant conflict between the wishes of Ernest and those of the people bent on rewarding him for the deed of bravery kept the audience in continual laughter. Merridew, believing that there is oil on the property, tries to buy the farm from the widow for a pitance, only to be detected by Sis Riggs, who had heard him talking to his niece. Aaron refuses a bribe to keep quiet and tells the news of the oil to the widow, forcing the would-be swindler to pay an honest price for the farm. However, the oil was planted on the farm by Aaron, as Merridew soon discovers When he tries to force the widow to return the money he paid her,he is arrested on an old swindling charge by Clarence Green, a plain clothes detective. Aaron winds up the play in a slick manner by marrying the widow.
