MRS. EVELYN DONOVAN B.S. Physical Education MR. WILLIAM L. PICKETT B.M., MM. Music We, the Senior Class of 1970, take pleasure in dedicating our yearbook to two outstanding educators. This year, after many years of service to both students and faculty members at Arts High, Mrs. Donovan, girls' gym and health teacher, has a life of leisure. In many ways, she has earned the respect and admiration of her students and her co-educators. Besides being a teacher to whom any student with a problem could turn, she also served as a guidance counselor. The Girls' Volleyball Club and the Modern Dance Club were both started under her leadership and she was an active member of the school's Cooperative Council. Among her other student activities wos the supervision of the baked goods department of the Winter Fair. Using the boys' and girls' gyms as her ''base of operation , she planned meticulously and organized and directed the operation so skillfully, that we always had a financial success. She was also in charge of our yearly Internation Day luncheons. But most of all, Mrs. Donovan has always expressed her extreme concern for, and deep faith in the student body here at Arts High School. If there could be any one thing that wc at Arts will miss, it would undoubtedly be Mrs. Donovan's optimism. She believed and still believes in our generation and wc appreciate her confidence in us. During the time that Mr. Pickett was director of the Arts High Chorus, musical perfection was the goal of the Chorus. His extensive knowledge of music and his highly individual style of conducting brought the chorus to greater heights of success with each performance. Mr. Pickett's subtlo sense of humor and easy-going nature won him the respect and friendship of both faculty members and students alike. Unfortunately, Mr. Pickett is no longer a member of the Newark School System. He resigned to accept a position at Millburn High School. Although he i no longer with us, he'll always be a port of the Arts High family. 6

MAX CHIMACOFF, B.A. • English The Senior Class of 1970 would like to express its regret at the passing of Mr. Max Chimacoff on December 1, 1969. He had been a teacher at Arts High School for many years. His fine character and personality earned for him the respect of all students who were associated with him in any way. His friendly and courteous manner and fine clothes distinguished him as a gentleman. A learned man, Mr. Chimacoff spoke unusual languages including classical Greek and Latin. As a teacher, he spent a great deal of time teaching outside of the classroom os well as in it, giving his English and Latin students additional help. His death was a great loss to the students and to the Newark School System, for he was truly dedicated not only to teaching but to his students and to the school.
