CDR William E. fBill1 Hardy was born in Queens, New York and was commissioned through the NROTC program when he graduated from the Iowa State University in 1981. His initial assignment was to the USS SPRUANCE KDD-9631 were he served as Gunnery Officer, Fire Control Officer, Navigator and Combat System Officer. In September 1985 he reported to the Naval Military Personnel Command as the Rating Assignment Officer for the Sea, Special Programs Branch. Commander Hardy then reported aboard the USS KINKAID IDD-9652 as the Combat Systems Officer in February 1989. In November 1991, Commander Hardy was assigned to the staff of the Commander, US Seventh Fleet, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan were he served as the Fleet Scheduler until March 1994. His next assignment was as the Executive Officer of USS STUMP IDD-9782 in Norfolk, VA. In November 1995 he reported to the US Naval War College in Newport, RI and he graduated wi th distinction from the Naval Staff College in December 1996. Commander Hardy's most recent assignment was to the U.S. Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, VA where he served as the Chief of Special Technical Operations until February 2000. CDR Hardy assumed command of USS ARTHUR W. RADFORD KDD-9681 in June' 2000. CDR Bill Hardy is married to the former Mary Montgomery of St Paul, MN.
