The freshman, symbolized by the quarter moon, begins the cycle he will follow throughout high school. Unaware of his capabilities, he is unsure of himself and must be encouraged by his classmates and teachers. As a sophomore, represented by the half moon, he has more confidence in himself but is still uncertain of what the future will hold for him.

The junior, designated by the three-quarter moon, has almost completed the cycle. He is a rellection of his friends and teachers, just as the moon is a reflection of rays of light from the sun. Similarly, the light represents the knowledge and experience the individual has acquired during his high school years. The linal phase, the full moon or senior, is a time of reminiscence and expectation. The senior recalls his high school experience as an very important part of his life. Because senior year is a time of sadness and happiness, the upperclassman is not merely a full moon, but also a new moon. In this way, the cycle never ends, but recurs continuously throughout life like the endless moons in endless nights.
