Dedication November 22, 1963, is a date few of us will ever forget. On this day a nation lost its leader; a youth lost its idol and inspiration; 3 whole world lost a crusader for peace. Here at Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School, the ideals of John Fitzgerald Kennedy had been a daily infiuence in our lives. A more rigorous physical education program. a twenty-five mile hike, a debate in history, or a heated discussion of political policies at the lunch table were but a few of the manifestations of the Presidents inHuence. More than this, we were captured by his spirit of warmth and enthusiasm, of liberty and justice, of understanding and peace. On November 22, as the first news announcement that the President had been shot came over the public address system during sixth period, an atmosphere of confusion, disbelief, and anxiety replaced the usual academic mood. Minutes later, as official word came that President Kennedy had passed into immortality, our school fell into a shocked, uncanny silence. A few of us wept, a few prayed, but all of us felt in our hearts the terrible and irreplaceable loss of a great man. It is in his fond memory that we dedicate this 1964 LANCE to John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States.
