14' , 1964 Lance Published by the students of Arthur L. Johnson Regional H. S. Clark, New Jersey Volume VIII v$ m. Prologue The theme for the 1904 LANCE has been inspired by the immortal lines of Thomas Heywood: iiThe world is a theatre, the earth a stage which God and nature do with aclnrs fill. To this LANCE staff, our school seemed to he the perfect small-scale representation of this thought. Pm'traying the teachers as dirertors, the seniors as stars, and the undvrvlassmen as under- studies, we proceed to correlate the world oi tho stage with the work of the classroom. It is our sincere hope that this 1064. LANCE will present the reader with a pictorial and verbal review of the uvents. students, and faculty endeavors which comprised the Spirit Hi the l063-fv1 aca- demit' year at Arthur L. Johnson. Dedication November 22, 1963, is a date few of us will ever forget. On this day a nation lost its leader; a youth lost its idol and inspiration; 3 whole world lost a crusader for peace. Here at Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School, the ideals of John Fitzgerald Kennedy had been a daily infiuence in our lives. A more rigorous physical education program. a twenty-five mile hike, a debate in history, or a heated discussion of political policies at the lunch table were but a few of the manifestations of the Presidents inHuence. More than this, we were captured by his spirit of warmth and enthusiasm, of liberty and justice, of understanding and peace. On November 22, as the first news announcement that the President had been shot came over the public address system during sixth period, an atmosphere of confusion, disbelief, and anxiety replaced the usual academic mood. Minutes later, as official word came that President Kennedy had passed into immortality, our school fell into a shocked, uncanny silence. A few of us wept, a few prayed, but all of us felt in our hearts the terrible and irreplaceable loss of a great man. It is in his fond memory that we dedicate this 1964 LANCE to John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States. E TABLE OF CONTENTS $ TITLE PAGE PROLOGUE DEDICATION . Senior Play The evenings of March 20 and 21 were two of those times that are somehow dreaded, and yet, anxiously awaited. They were the nights on which twenty seven of our seniors performed Wrake Her, Shela, Mine? The lights were hot, the auditorium was filled and the actors were tense. At approximately 10:30 it was all over. The audience broke into rounds of applause for both the actors and our director, Miss Dorothy Kreglow. Wrake Her, Shefs Mimi, was definitely one of the finest productions Johnson Regional has ever seen. CAST PRINCIPAL ...................................................... TTRemember When? the theme of the Ball, was held at the Shackamaxon Country Club and marked the closing event of the seniors, four years at A.L.J. The music was entertaining and enjoy- able, the lights were dimmed, and the joy- ful spirit of all who attended set the atmos- phere for a wonderful evening of dining and dancing. The students and faculty are, for seven or eight hours each day, involved only with the life that goes on within these halls. On November 22 all this was shattered. One moment everyone was absorbed in their secure routine, and the next, all were shocked, confused, and terribly sad at the news of John F. Ken- nedyls death. Yet, whether we are remembered or forgotten is of little consequence. It is what we ourselves remember or forget that is most important. This being our prime motivating force, the l964- Lance staff has tried to compile all the beautiful and sometimes sad memories of our last and most remembered year at Regional. We hope you, the reader. have enjoyed them as much as we, the class 0f 164. have enjoyed and will forever treasure the memories of our four years at Johnson Regional. 163 164 ............ ......... . .... . ....mm... . 3a.. . .... . . i. 2......
