PHYSICAL EDUCATION The Physical Education Department is important in developing the characteristics of good sportsmanship and team play as well as fitness in our students. Specialized activities are oHered after school to those who are interested. Juniors hove Driver Education instead of health and have the opportunity to practice behind the wheel driving. MUSIC Of course the Christmas and Spring Concerts highlighted the many accomplishments of our Music Department. The Red Mill, an opera resulting from the combined efforts of the three regional schools, was also a great success. On the instrumental side, a new German band, The Hungry 5, seems to be developing rapidly. In its second year, the Dance Band played for the FTA Smorgasbord and the Student Fair. SOCIAL STUDIES Besides the regular courses in history and geography, our Social Studies Department is offering Psychology, Sociology and Economics. Those who took Psychology heard some down-toe earth facts from a member of the A.A.A. Field trips and other speakers were available to all classes. Of special interest was a visit from Dr. Reverend Brown from the Congo. This distinguished guest spoke to many students on current issues in Africa and was the guest of honor at a school luncheon. HOME ECONOMICS With modern equipment and expert guidance, the students in the Home Economics Department learn cooking, sewing, homemoking and home manage- ment. Their skills are appreciated by the faculty, who greatly beneht from them. Home Ec. students distributed corsages to faculty members on St. Patrick's Day and cookies at Christmas. They also prepared a faculty fashion show and several faculty teas. ROSE POLONSKY, Art 1, Art 2, Art 3, Advanced Art, Arts and Crafts 1, Arts and Crafts 2, Arts and Crafts Club. SPECIALISTS Mrs. Polonsky teaches her students painting, ceramics, and other artistic crafts. In turn, they have benefited the school by creating the backdrop for the Christmas program and help- ing on the Senior Play set. Students in need of library help find Miss Rhodes an invaluable aid. She can always be found supervising the library and assisting others in correct library procedure. Our school nurse is a well known Figure at ALJ. Usually available in the health emce, she adeptly administers First aid and directs school-sponsored health testing programs. The Beauty Culture Department, under the able direction of Mrs. Vasta, was c: new addition to our high school. Here girls learn better grooming as well as special beauty skills. Mr. Freef'veld adeptly heads the reading courses and specializes in helping students improve their reading skills. Wm Guess who?
