Clubs provide activities for interested Hillites Thirteen clubs offered Hillites extra-curricular activities. The RadioClub, sponsored by Mr. Earl Burnett, used ham radios to contact people in other countries and states. They reached as far as Belgium. The Office Co-op and the Distributive Ed- ucation clubs held meetings, participated in business classes and on-the-job training. They also held an end-of-the-year banquet. Various members of foreign language groups visited France, Germany, and Spain over Easter vacation. Hi-Y, sponsored by Mr. Gary Knight, was an organization consisting mainly of senior boys. They played basketball and participated in other athletic events. The Pep Club was in charge of many dances and sucker sales. They were partly credited for the cheer at home games. Quill and Scroll, an honorary for student journalists, held a spring banquet for new mem- bers. They offered a scroll to Walter Cronkite, a CBS broadcaster, for his support of high school journalism. Thespians, a drama group, also had an init- iation ceremony for apprentices who earned enough points to become permanent members. 26 AHHS ye - Cee. + EON “s ) .
