68 Twirlers, Cheerleaders Spark Spirit in Fans Twelve bouncy cheerleaders urged the Hillite teams by arousing school spirit. ““When the Hills Come Marching In” is a new cheer devised this year by the Hillite cheerleaders. It is sung to the tune of “When the Saints Come Marching In.” Having new ideas and techniques is only one of many routine items in the life of a cheerleader. Blue and gold crepe paper pom-poms made by the varsity cheerleaders added color and variety to many cheers. New adviser, Miss Marianne Jensen, a graduate of Central Michigan University, also taught English and art classes. She prodded the girls toward a goal of perfection. Helping to provide a festive mood, Arthur Hill majorettes and drum majors displayed their twirling and directing abilities during halftime at football games. At one game the majorettes did a fire baton routine to “I Got Rhythm.” This year our band, majorettes, and drum majors performed at a Lions’ football game. Unfortunately, the majorettes and drum majors were unable to perform their self-taught routines be- fore the crowds during the football games. Rain, snow, muddy fields and just plain bad weather prevented both the band and performers from appearing. VARSITY CHEERLEADERS, TOP TO BOTTOM: Joda Fowler, Martha Pierson, Linda Tewes, Phyllis Walsh, Ann Cortopassi, and Anita Lewis. J.V. CHEERLEADERS for 1968 are: Sherry Wood, Deborah Thon, Lynda 14
