In line with administration policy to provide the best instruction for all students, the English Department offers classes on three levels: ac- celerated, academic, and basic. The six new accelerated classes move at a faster pace. Ad- mission to these special classes is based on teacher recommendation, and grammer and reading tests. Academic classes aim at a com- prehensive program in all phases of English, while basic concentrate on fundamental skills and practical application. Accepting the theory that students learn by doing, the program puts a premium on compo- sition, both oral and written. Impromptu, expo- sition, descriptive, and research themes are re- quired.
