WORLD HISTORY textbooks provide ample material on world affairs for CALVIN HEILBORN, JACK FOWLER, CATHERINE BOMMARITO, DIONE BUTLER, and MIKE DAMORE. A better understanding of today’s problems is gained through discussion, research, and study. AMERICAN HISTORY goes international with the discussion of UN led by NANCY McCUTCHEON, as WALTER SEEMANN, SALLY LaBRAKE, SUE REAVEY, and MISS BERNICE FRANCIS participate. Through read- ing the “American Observer,” students learned of CARE and staged a school-wide campaign. eleven EXPERIMENT IN PHYSICS on moments of force supplements the daily lesson for ERNST GRABOWSKI as he tries his hand at balancing the meter stick while onlookers, MARCIA GOLDFARB and DAVID BRAUN, take notes. Detailed notes on plant and animal life fill pages in a biology student’s notebook. twelve ALGEBRA students, BUD MARKS and JANE TOTTEN consult the book in solving systematic equations through determinants. Logarithms, and graphic illustration of solving for “X’ are background for higher college mathematics for college preparatory students. GEOMETRIC designer, NORMA LEVI, guides her compass in a con- struction as ROBERTA BAUSTERT and BILL ROOKER give advice. Regular sessions on alternating days keep the boys in trim. IN BOYS’ ART OF LIVING, EARL GILGINAS writes the rules for memor- ization on the board while VERN KRAFFT consults the text and BILL VOIGT reads it aloud to the class. Units on how to study and social dancing are especially planned to help sophomores learn the ‘Arthur Hill Way.” thirteen ” SPEED TYPISTS hope to increase their skill. IRENE ADOLF, BONNIE JOHNSON, and ARDIS GOSLIN practice drill on business letters and legal forms. The fastest typing speed recorded this year was Joyce Nicholson’s record of 62 words per minute. SHORTHAND brings puzzled expressions to JANICE VASOLD, JANE HARRIS, and ELAINE NEHLS. Gregg shorthand pins were awarded to five students who passed their 60, 80, 100, 120, or 140 words-a-minute speed tests. fourteen THe eee eee eee a ee es ee IN SEWING, clean hands are essential. Students will spend five hours a day for these two weeks in discussion groups, clinics, lectures, and workshops led by men from the college journalism staff in studying publication problems. JOURNALISM STUDENTS officially closed the World War II Service Honor Board this June with 2,000 names of alumni who served in the armed forces and 76 gold star names. Since the draft ended with July ‘47 only the names of those boys called up to that time were entered. Creating this honor for Arthur Hill alumni was a service of the journalism department financed by individual contributions from the entire student body. DELEGATES to the National Scholastic Press Association Conference, MARY HARTSELL, ANN GLASS, MARY ELLEN TURNBULL, and LORRAINE SIMON, leave their room in the Hotel Statler in Cleveland after attending a three-day short-course in newspaper and yearbook making during the Thanksgiving week-end.
