Last fall we began to learn the ropes. With an eye to prevailing winds, we sailed over the bounding mains, carrying I ,400 passengers. Although Captain Helen Fischer was in command, we now and then ran into heavy fog or an unforeseen storm. The dollar from each Student Union ticket helped to fill the crew ' s moneybox, and a few brave volunteers worked with a will to sell the merchant ' s stock in the ship. Carefully annotating every important happening in the log, we were helped a bit by old hands in the trade. When we caught sight of land, we speeded up.
