Gilmore wins MVP trophy Back Wayne Gilmore earned his MVP trophy in a hard fought season that had many exciting moments but no wins. john Marks won the best mental attitude and best offensive back awards. Dwaine Richardson was the best defensive back, Carey Moorman was the best offensive lineman, Isaiah Stansberry was the best defensive lineman while Carmen Shirley was the most improved underclassman. Carey and Wayne were honorable mentions to the STAR's All City Team along with Marquise McVay lFreemanJ, Dewayne Richardson, and Craig Neville. Coach Robert Woodard led the Titans after Coach Lafayette Reed had resigned because of personal problems. Other coaches were Stephen Guynn, and john Newton who was later named head coach for 1987. Robert Cooley led the reserves ll-75, and Ronald Fyffe coached the frosh team C2-65. William Wheeler was the equipment manager and David Lowe was the athletic trainer. Because of a number of reasons, the junior varsity was combined with the varsity so the jv squad did not complete their season. Team second in IPS match Finishing second in the IPS Invitational was a high point in the golf team's season. They also took seventh in the City Tournament and placed 14th in the sectional. The regular season ended in a 5-8 record with wins over Arlington, Manual itwice eachl, and Broad Ripple. David Suess was named captain and MVP for the team. He also earned his fourth major award in golfand received a plaque. Robert Lucas earned the best mental attitude award. David, joseph Benson, and Douglas Warren were the only seniors on the 11-man squad. Coach lulius Kleine has seven freshmen and one sophomore returning to the team this spring.
