ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIPS Amy Michael Duane R. Williams Among the most cherished honors presented each Honor Day at Tech are the Principal Awards. When Tech opened in September, 1921, Milo H. Stuart began his leadership of the school. He came over from Manual High School when the city school system started this new school on the former Civil War arsenal grounds. DeWitt S. Morgan, another distinguished educator, became Tech ' s second principal and later became superintendent of schools. Tech ' s third principal, Hanson H. Anderson, was one of the school ' s original teachers. After his retirement in 1958, he was succeeded by Cecil McClintock. Tech ' s immediate past principal is Howard L. LONGSHORE SCHOLARSHIPS: for a boy and a girl who have helped achieve a better understanding among fellow human beings, have developed a mature manner, and have demonstrated loyalty to the school.

Departments Recognize Top Seniors The outstanding senior student(s) in most of Tech ' s many departments (awards are not mandatory) are presented engraved plaques each Honor Day. The criteria for these awards vary a bit from department to department, but the general rule is that each award winning senior must have majored in the subject, must have received high grades, and must have the recommendation of teachers in the department. Some students enhance their chances of receiving the highest department award by demonstrating initiative, as by carrying out special projects or entering contests. Some of the awards listed below show a name in parenthesis. Where such a name occurs, it is the last name of a Tech teacher who distinguished himself or herself while serving on that department ' s faculty. Thus, tradition continues — as does the tradition of using the second name, Supreme Day, for our Honor Day. It was on May 22, 1916, that the Indiana Supreme Court ruled to let the former arsenal grounds continue to be used as a school — without end! AUTO TR. Auto Mech.
