History Club explores restored tower TIME ticks by before the eyes of young and old alike. if With Betsy Sweet as sponsor for the second year, the Tech History Club con- tinued to provide enjoyment and learning to interested students. Proving most valuable to the group was a trip to the top of the Arsenal Tower early in the year, with Vice-Principal Wallace Potter as guide. Nlr. Potter led the group through the tower, explaining and demonstrating the clockworks which were recently restored. The original work- ings are still in use, however. Seven stories and several steps up- ward, the group reached the top as the historic bell tolled the hour for all on Tech campus to hear. Sl. , . :- ,.-- 'T,i.L.. Tl lv. T' 'fi' . . Learning is key to social studies Social Studies is more than just repeat- ing facts and figures about the American Revolution or the Gross National Product. The Tech Social Studies Department, headed by William Siedlecki again this year, tried to acquaint the people at Tech with the economic, historic, and social situations of the people of the world. Learning is the key factor, for no matter how many social studies courses you've taken, you could never learn too much about the people of the world. lt is man's nature to be curious, and what is there better to be curious about than man? As a people, or as an in- dividual, the facets of mankind are never ending. Continue to learn. lRVlN BRIMMAGE, Evelyn Day, and Russell Bryant share a moment of insight in their Afro- American History class. NILES FOREMAN assists in making history a visual experience. HISTORY appears to be blowing in the wind as members of the History Club view the campus from one of Tech's many historic sights. f 3 'E as U

Roberts School Blankenhorn, sponsor. as part of her Exploratory Teaching experience. Pupils get taste of own m di in The Student Action for Education was busy throughout the school year. Mrs. Joan Brown, sponsor of the group, ac- companied the students on their many activities. In the fall, SAE took a field trip to the Noble School, and during January student member David Harwell was a candidate from the Indianapolis area to be Mr. SAE. He was the first Tech student to win this honor. The group was involved in the Valen- tines Day Tea with several other groups, and the students planned an Easter Egg hunt for the Children's Guardian Home and the Villa Mission. At the end of the year they planned a picnic at Eagle Creek Park. Rodney Dangerfield may complain, I get no respect, but pupils of the Explor- atory Teaching class can not make the same claim. In this course students in- terested in teaching are given a first hand look at actually handling a class situation. The students who participate in this course are sent to neighboring schools for two periods a day for one semester. They receive one credit for the class. 0PEN PUPILS' minds, advises David Har- well, known as Mr. SAE. SAE-FRONT ROW: Deborah Sanford, Leisa Hayden, David Harwell, Mrs. Joan R. Brown, sponsor.
