Before my arrival in the United States I had been sent some pictures of Arrowhead North Campus and I had thought it was real nice, but when I entered there for the first time I was fasinated with it. I had never seen such a big, modern and beautiful school. I knew right away that my year was going to be a success, and after meeting some of the teachers and students there, I was positive of it. This first impression proved to be correct. Every day I met new people and they were all so friendly and nice to me. Everybody helped me and made it easier for me to get used to the new system and new faces. I enjoyed every minute of my time and before I even noticed, it was already Christmas. The best things about Arrowhead are the close atmosphere among the students and even between them and die teachers, the freedom of choosing to do things one is interested in, and the great facilities to improve yourself. I had an opportunity of taking many courses and studying many things I had never even heard of, but most of all this year gave me a great lesson in learning about people, people with different attitudes, opinions and personalities. I am very grateful to AFS for giving me this oppor- tunity to come here and learn about your country, it's background and its motives. Also I want to thank all the students and die teachers for making this year what it turned out to be; a wonderful year filled with new acquaintances and happiness. I shall always remember all of you, the way you understood me and how you right away turned me from a stranger to a part of you. I'll take all my memories back home with me and hope from all my heart that die parting at the end is not going to be final. Tiina Harju Finland Prior to my departure from Ghana as an AFSer, it was all confusion and perplexities to me at the thought of seeing die United States, long a Utopia to many Ghanaians and now that I've come, I've seen and I believe in the many fantastic things regarding the U.S. and disbelieving in some, that in my opinion are not true since seeing is believing. My first day at Arrowhead was like being in a country torn in chaos with excitement to some and confusion to me. What appeared like chaos at first soon changed to a friendly atmosphere and I was soon like a comrade-in-arms with many kids. Arrowhead is a great educational institute in terms of facilities and the best courses available to students, and its up to the students to utilize them. Arrowhead is fantastic and since people who say they will dance every time, will become invalids -people are liars if tiiey praise everything. I don't want to overemphasize my appreciation for the school. At Arrowhead I learned something new; the Grumpy Scale and Mood Meter of Mr. Hassemer and the nice feelings I had toward my teachers. I've, in a giant step as an AFSer, gone through a complete life metamorphoses- air flight, new diet and society, football, temperatures below 54° and snow. If global peace is to become a necessity to the existance of mankind and preservation of the world, AFS is one step toward that goal and the nuclear weapons of the world powers would soon become a liability to their possessors. Through AFS I've met students from the world over, learned from them, and they from me as well as sharing some of the wonderful things about Ghana with those who were most interested in the success of AFS. Once back home, the reflections, echoes and memories of my year in the U.S. shall keep my mem- ory of my family, Arrowhead and friends fresh. Fin- ally when the frog eats pepper, it is the lizard that perspires and I am grateful to all for making my year such a wonderful experience. Anthony Tol 87
