White lace and promises, a kiss for luck and we're on our way. We've only just begun. Before the risen sun we fly, So many roads to choose, we start out walking and learn to run. And yes we just begun. Sharing horizons that are new to us. Watching the signs along the way. Talking it over just the two of us, working together day to day; together. And when the evening comes we smile, so much of life ahead, We'll find a place where there's room to grow. And yes we've just begun, sharing horizons that are new to us. T---- AND WHEN THE EVENING COMES WE SMILE, SO MUCH OF LIFE AHEAD WE FIND A PLACE WHERE THERE’S ROOM TO GROW Activities What would a school be without its activities: the dances, theatrical productions, and concerts of the school year? Homecoming, Twirp, and Prom are tire main dances of the year. Homecoming, a school highlight in the fall gives the students the opportunity to elect their King and Queen who rule the activities of the day: a parade, bonfire, game, and dance. Prom, in the spring, is the formal dance of the year. Twirp is Arrowhead's form of the Womens' Liberation with girls asking the boys. Dramatics-where else could such performances by fellow students be seen and enjoyed? Concerts given by tire band, or- chestra, and the choir give the school its needed cultural enlight- enment. Activities involve everyone: stu- dents, teachers, and parents. What better way is there to work togeth- er and close the generation gap. 0NIAI1 dOd 31AII1 V 0Z6I SERDAR AKDURAK Monday - Braids, bobby socks, and tennis shoes day. Tuesday - Hat day. These are only a few of the many things the organi- zations of Arrowhead accomplished this year. Recreational, honorary, curriculum, and dramatic clubs make up this important field in high school education. A club is fun, no matter how or what they perform. People learn from ex- perience, and Arrowhead's clubs provide it. TEAMS UNDERGO A1B1971 ORGANIZATIONS ANNUALSTAFF ROW 1. CHEERLEADERS CHERYL MATTESON JAMES MERTENS JOHN MOOSRE1NER Being asked to describe my year at Arrowhead in one page is a bi- like trying to squeeze over nine hundred students into a small Sou- Campus. It can be done, but with a great deal of difficulty. The one word that springs to mind as I think back on my year is happy . I have been far happier this year at Arrowhead than I have ever been in my life before. I came, alone, a bit frightene but excited about meeting new friends. I am leaving infinitely richer in experiences, friendships, and love. This year proved to be one of new ideas, new friends, and a greai deal of understanding for me. I learned that people, no matter where they come from, are basically the same. I learned that we! all want peace and universal understanding. Most of all, I learne that in six short months you can get to love people so that they w never fade from your memory. If ever I think back on Arrowhead (and believe me, I often will), I shall always think of die crowded South Campus, the spacious new one, sitting in die Commons area talking, hearing the faint buzz of subdued conversation in die library, delighting in the applause after our play was over, arguing with Mr. Bart, playing with the mice in Advanced Biology, attending ball games and dances, and more than anything else, I shall remember the way you all accepted and treated me. 1 I hope diat I have left something of me with the school, teachers and students, just as I have gained something from all of you. I want to thank you for having made this year possible and particu- larly those who made it so happy for me. LYNDA ALBERTYN My first day at Arrowhead was very confusing, frighting and full of new faces. However, I soon found out that the kids and teachers were so friendly and helpful; that my poor English did not stop me from making friends nor from being accepted. What I really like about Arrowhead was the freedom given to the students and the relationship between students and the teachers. I made friends not only with the students, but also with many teachers. I am particularly grateful that we moved to the new and exciting campus in the middle of the school year. So much was new to me this year like snow, freezing mornings, with the temperatures below zero, a White Christmas, skiing with the Arrowheads Ski Club and so many more things and most im- portant are all the new friends I made. I am very happy and grateful to be an AFS Student because not only did I meet Americans, but also AFS Students from all over the world I learned what it is like to live in Turkey, South Africa and many other countries. In this troubled world with wars and conflicts, American Field Service is a small step in the direction of world peace, but it has a great objective; because it joins young citizens of the world tliat learn to appreciate, seeing and sharing, and to respect the similarities and differences of people who, though they live in different countries, brave dreams and efforts similarly directed in searching of a peaceful and useful life; and so then we will have the right to be free, the right to move ahead, the right to talk to- gether and to dream together. Finally, I want to say: Thank you , for making this year so great. Sympathy to everybody Muchisimas gracias a todos ustudes: mis amigos. Dennis E. Salazer Rodriguez Costa Rica DENNIS SALAZER AKDURAK SEDAR I like die new school and my year at South and North Cam- pus, but naturally my favorite is die North Campus. I have reasons for saying that first; North Campus is a new building and has a different educational policy. Everything is new and modern. Everydiing was designed so it would be more useful for the students. I have found that Nordi Campus students are more sincere to each other. North Campus facilities are better dian Soudi Campus especially the gym hall and the I M C. GERALD MUNDT JAMES NAYLOR I am very happy to be with Arrowhead students who are all my friends. I wish to be with them all my life, because all of diem are very kind to you and full of friendship. If you asked about die teachers I would have to say they are really nice, they show us how to do things and help us. As a result of all of the above I can easily say that you have a nice school and die students are happy together. 73 AFS ROW 1. Arrowhead's program consists of football and cross-country in the fall, with wrestling and basketball in the winter, and followed by tennis, golf, baseball, and track in the spring. During the course of the season, an athlete meets many people and learns by actual com- petition to get along with others. Mentally, he obtains a competi- tive spirit. This attitude not only helps him while competing, but prepares him for future years in his attempts to be successful. Sports isn't all fun and games. In ex- cellence, there is the wearing of long, tedious hours of practice. But once an athlete becomes good, he feels that certain pride within himself for what he has accom- plished. The athletes of Arrow- head can be proud of themselves; they've done much. VARSITY ROW 1. Jim Darnels, Gary Dexter, Greg Pilgrim, Mark Harmaim, Dave Nienow, John Jencen, Ken Shaw, Andy Weber. ROW 2. Freshmen and Sophomore Conference Meet at Underclassmen The under-classmen at Arrowhead play an important role. Without them there wouldn't be anyone to buy bathroom or bubbler passes. Who would get all the messy jobs that the Seniors refuse to do? And more important, Seniors wouldn't be Seniors anymore. The Seniors of Arrowhead have the under- classmen to thank for all that. On the next few pages you will sec them. They don't walk or talk differently, they're basically regular human beings. Most of them wear pants, shirts, shoes, and even underwear. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors make up this strange society inside the walls of Arrowhead. TEAMS UNDERC5 _ SJAIB1971 UNDERCLASSMEN ROW 1. They arc called educators. Their duties en- compass nearly every phase of Arrowhead and reach the life of every student. Their talents and creativity fashion the atmosphere, challenge the student and mold each personality. The admini- strators of these are concerned not only with the efficiency of school programing, but also with the cur riculum offering a variety of chal lenging subjects. Student opinions on the quality of Arrowhead's teachers vary from emotional pros and cons to cold indifference. In general, students realize this col- lage of talent. They see them in action. They are there every day. Their quality is never strained. Here they are! You are each created with an equal opportunity to be unequal. Your unique talents and potential can be realized through a strong and positive attitude. In order to be self-motivated and directed in a life of personal worth, each should contribute to the SOLUTION of problems in society by determining ways in which issues can and will be solved. This is in sharp contrast to the currently popular attitude which is revealed by those who spend all their time identifying problems and expressing the ways which issues cannot be solved. Our democratic society must meet the responsibility of change but not be lured into change for change sake. Your ability to contribute to the resolution of problems through the cultivation of your unique talents will make your school and society improve. We must not forget that our form of government, with all it's imperfections is the best that the fallible mind of man has yet devised. We must agree that the proper function of the democratic process is to correct the imperfections when a way can be found - to improve not to destroy. With that fundamental agreement, each of you can proceed with equal opportunity to be unequal in rebuild- ing the unity of purpose that we have come so perilously close to losing in this great country. Your school, your com- munity and your country desperately need your leadership in rebuilding unity directed toward the common good of mankind. Dwight M. Stevens SCHOOL BOARD LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. Manke, Dr. Chambers, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Lequc, Mr. Kramer, Mr. Morris, Dr. McNeil. The word desire is often associated with athletes and athletic teams. It implies an inner quality which causes the individual or team to exert somewhat greater energies in the attempt to reach established goals. It would seem that this same quality should be available to all individuals or groups as they strive to accomplish specific tasks. As we examine ourselves, there is no doubt that we all possess that inner quality. It is there for all of us to use. However, the problem we face is in finding that quality and allowing it to work for us. It is my hope, as we face the future, that we will search ourselves and exploit tire quality of desire to cause all of us to reach utmost production. In doing so, we will help to promote a better Arrowhead and a better society. 148 MR. STEVENS MR. ZIETLOW MR. VANDERTIE MR. POLLOCK MR. MARTIN MR. BAUER ADMINISTRATION 149 MRS. AUDLEY, BE, Art, Asst.
