.., As principal of our school, I am proud of you young people. I can see where many of you have developed almost miraculously as you have studied, worked and played together through these years. I wish those who were responsible for the school program in the early days of this community could see how much good has come from these small be- ginnings. Everyone who ever had anything to do with youth work acknowledges that there are prob- lems. For young people even acknowledge it, but the answer lies, not in continuous fault finding and belittling their efforts, but in constructive work such as is carried on in our schools. I sincerely believe that education is the corner- stone upon which the future of this nation is built. Where there are good schools we find good citizens. In fact, education is the first requisite of good citi- zenship. ALEX TANNAS Mercer University Duquesne University sets? The most dramatic demonstration of our belief in the worth and dignity of the individual was the creation and development of our plan of public education. Those pioneer leaders of our govern- ment who planned our system of education foresaw the value of an education for all in our growing democratic society. At the same time they under- stood, as we also understand today, that the schools are not in business to teach everything to everyone. Actually, the public school course offerings are de- signed to meet the needs of all individuals. As a valued creature of God, you are an indi- vidual endowed with not only the essential and fundamental talents common to all but also the po- tential to develop your latent talents and your re- sources to their maximum heights of perfection.
