The students of AHS had so many things going on they hardly had time to jump in- to the trash can for a last minute snack or ever do a couple of last minute touchups on their hair! The AHS student body missed, at first, the seniors of last year. Then we all decided that it isn't what we had then, but what we have now that counts — and we sure hope to make the best of it in 85! A “Happy-Cat” Year!! Studying was one of the big- gest things going on this year. The students studied ways of getting out of class: ways of get- ting away with chewing gum in English; and ways of getting out of trouble. The year of '85 was OFF!! P S. The four contestants were Stacy Folks. Jeri Martin. Gena Woods, and Paula Cadwell. The contestants first had to be individually interviewed and then went to a luncheon with the judges and former Miss Arnetts. The luncheon helped the girls get their jitters out and helped the judges become more acquainted with the girls. The entertainers for the pageant were Cynthia Smith. '83 Miss Arnett, and Shane Hicks. '84 Miss Arnett. The contestants performed so well in each area that it was very hard for the judges to decide who would hold the new Miss Arnett title. For the finals the contestants came out on stage together. Gene Woods was announced first runner-up and Paula Cadwell was crowned the new 1984-85 Miss Arnett. The escorts were Casey Branstetter. Officers Beta members have used the coke machine for their main money- making project; however, their Valentine Cookie Sale was a big success as their 1985 sales topped 180 cookies. During the primary and general elections some Beta members called results to a Tulsa television station. This service earned some money for the Club. For Christmas, the Beta members donated enough food to fill four food baskets for needy families. It gave each member a warm feeling of satisfaction to know they were sharing with others in this area who would otherwise go without. The state convention usually climaxes the Beta’s school year activities. Money that has been raised during the year is used to pay for registration and room accommodations for the members. Members enjoy the banquet, dance, and meetings at state convention. They enjoy associating with members of clubs from throughout Oklahoma. L-R: Casey Branstetter. Pres.; Kenya Barber. In the little room at the end of the hall you may hear Mrs. Guy speaking to many different students in many different ways (9-12 grades). Sometimes you can find these students speaking Spanish; heckl- ing the speaker of the moment; or teaching Spanish to our little Spaniards over at the grade school. The Spanish students have progressed so well that they probably could carry on a whole con- versation with a Spanish person without even having to say just a minute. Adios. or The End. The speech team, coached by Sharon Stuckey, represents Arnett High School in tournament speech contests. The team consists of Gena Woods. Tracy Gillis and Beverly McGuire. Each student went to five contests and qualified their material for Regional. State and National contest. Gena Woods qualified Prose. Poetry. Dramatic Interpretation. Humorous Interpretation and Dramatic Duet. Tracy Gillis has qualified Prose. Original Oratory. Poetry. Dramatic Interpretation and also a Dramatic Duet with Gena Woods. Beverly McGuire qualified her Humorous Inter- pretation. Good Luck!!! They were giving speeches to the seniors about the 3 R's — responsibility, 'recklessness, and respect. They got together every morning before school and thought out the disciplinary action for the day. Sometimes it was detention, sometimes essays and worst of all — spending a whole day in “the BLACK hole.” As much as the students hate to admit it — it worked. High School Action Which way’s up? Then the month of February came along and things started popping a different rhythm. The prom, senior trip, graduation and future careers were coming to the minds of many Arnett students. They were beginning to recall all the crazy, awesome things that had happened throughout the year such as coming to school asleep, forgetting the morning breakfast and deciding over a coke whether to go the next class or not The school year was almost over and the tensions were beginning to rise ■ Mr. and Mrs. Parham remembering the good ole’ days The beginning of the dance Kevin Knowles presenting Mrs. Huffman with her new swimsuit Shelly Smith with her date. Marsh Boomer THE DANCE!!! The theme for the 1984-’85 prom. Crazy for You really set the right mood for the dance. It even got some of the teachers to boogie (a little). When the dance began, not many people were ready to show their stuff. But soon the dance floor was packed with everyone dancin’ to the beats of “Naughty, Naughty to Rain- bow Stew. By the time the dance was over, everyone’s feet were sore and all the girls’ hair was flat or frizzy. The high school concert band received Superior (I) ratings at District Contest in concert from 1981-84 and in sightreading from 1981-85. In 1983 the band was named “Best in Class” at the Six Flags Music Festival in Dallas, Texas. In 1984 the band made a record and a Jazz Band was formed. Mr. Parham also served as Annual Advisor for 7 years. Mr. Parham has accepted a similar teaching position in Garber and will be missed by many in Arnett. The annual staff hopes through this dedication to recognize Mr. Parham for his devotion to the band and music program in Arnett for the last 8 years. 120 4 r23 m „____ ® Ralston Purina Company, 1979.
