May this conclusion be drawn from the results of your labor that might be acknowledged by all youth: That, any completed task worthy of special recogni- tion did not just happen, but is the reward of hard work and stick-to-it-iveness. Each of you will renew memories of your 1952-53 school year as you leaf through this annual. You will recall some pleasant and maybe some unpleasant events. In behalf of the faculty, regardless of the type of event, it was our sincere desire that each of you profited from those experiences such that you will be better citizens for your sake and for the welfare of the community. Sincerely, A. H. Woods BASEBALL Above are pictured those eager and ready for the sound of Play Ball. Whether for the spring or fall season the satisfaction of a bunt well laid down. or the thrill of a hit, or the hustle and team spirit from good defensive play (against Higgins a triple, fall 52), all contribute to a well balanced sports program. First row: New, outfielder; Kliewer, outfielder. Second row: Bayless, coach; Carey, pitcher; Beam, catcher; Inselman, outfielder; Bonser, third sacker; Sober, first baseman; Knowles, first baseman. Third row; Coram, outfielder. Wayland, utility; Heinsohn. outfielder; Tolle, second baseman; West, outfielder; Mackey, second base- man; Bullard, third baseman. Not pictured: Hunter, shortstop. GIRLS’ VOCAL CLUB Coach Bill Seeds was the driving influence both the boys' and girls teams, that gave each their excellent record throughout the year. The boys entered two tournaments, and were beaten in the second game of both tournaments. Even though they were taken a few times they showed a fighting spirit and a will to win throughout the entire season. Five players are graduating this year. They are: Mackey, Boyd, Waters, Woods, Truitt. The Arnett High School will long remember these boys for their playing ability and sportsmanship. Then they stopped hustling so hard and let a few teams take them. They have entered two tournaments this year. They won their first game in each of the two tournaments but were beaten out in the second game in both tournaments. They are losing Three Seniors this year, Carolyn Knowles. Gayle Prather, Yulonda Bullard. The team will miss these girls next year for they played good ball and displayed good sportsmanship. The officers are: President, Jim Waters, Vice President, Le- roy Boyd; Secretary, Carolyn Knowles; Reporter, Mary Moore; Game Leader, Quinlin Insleman; Song Leader, Sherilyn Suthers. The Arnett 4-H girls had a very good exhibit at the County and State Fairs. Each member is looking forward with enthusiasm to the yearly round- up in April. The Arnett High School 4-H boys had a record number of entries in the Ellis County Free Fair. They made a good showing in all classes of livestock, poultry and grains, winning a large percent of the top honors. There were a few who exhibited for the first time at the Oklahoma State Fair. They placed well in their classes, considering that they were competing with some of the states top livestock raisers. We also have a record number of livestock entered in the County, District and State, Fat Stock Show this year. GRADE 4- H 4TH AND 5TH GRADE BAND 6TH GRADE BAND ARNETT HIGH SCHOOL BAND Our Band is composed of 54 students, most of them below the eleventh grade, this year and we are hoping that the sixth grade will furnish about 17 eligible students next year. The prospects for our band in the near future are bright and with determination and co-operation we can have a very good band. Our band has been active and we hope to continue to be. We have participated in the Shattuck Santa parade, the Arnett Christmas parade, the Woodward marching con- test and the Homecoming activities at P. A.M.C. of Goodwell Oklahoma. We are preparing for the district concert contest at Alva and if we qualify, intend to go to the State contest at Stillwater. We are going to the Clinic at Alva the 27th of March and participate. Our band will be conducted by two of the guest conductors who will help us with our contest pieces; they are very capable and we hope to benefit from their suggestions. We have bought 10 uniforms and two majorettes suits this year and should have enough for our marching and concert band next year. Our band is doing fine and our students are learning fundamentals of music and that to have a good organization you must co-operate and work together. We appreciate the help everyone has given us and hope we have furnished you with some enjoyable music and marching. The Pep Club was re-organized this fall with 35 girls, from grades five, six and seven, joining. We had good attendance at the home games and enjoyed adding our enthusiasm, with old and new yells, to the fighting spirits of both teams. EASY. DON!
