The highest honor that any member of the Adjutant Staff can receive is membership in Quill and Scroll. International Society for High School journal- ists and the happy and proud group below are the cadets who were voted membership in this honor society. Mr, Manuel Z. Olbes. faculty adviser of the Adjutant and of Quill ck Scroll for the past thirteen years. has always demanded the highest standard of yearbook work before awarding the coveted award to staff members. For the past three years the Academy yearbook has won first place in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association yearbook contest , l Front row, left lo right: T. Krueger, Mr. Manuel Z. Semenza. fs F' 5 W and this national recognition of journalistic excellence is due to the top work done by members of the Quill and Scroll. The chapter officers are: Tom Krueger. president: lid Shaw. vice presidentg Glen Gustafson. secretaryg Oscar Fitzgerald. treasurer. and Bill lfruehling. sergeant-at-arms. A yearbook is a record of memories capturing forever on the printed page the story of victories and hopes, of dreams and plans, and sometimes, of disappointments. But above all, it is a record of our lives at Army and Navy Academy, a record that the passing years will make more precious. Tom Krueger. as managing editor. carried the brunt of the work and worked effectively to co-ordinate the different departments. Wfithout any question, photography is the hardest and longest of the production jobs, and here Tom Krueger, Ray johnson. Craig Smith and lired Vang worked throughout the year. The editorial board consisted of Oscar Fitzgerald, Glen Gustafson and Carl Boetticher, associate editors. with jeff Davis supervising Sports and Eddie Lloyd as Activities Editor. A superb job of financing the book was done by lid Shaw as Advertising Manager and Graham Bell as Business Man- ager, who. together with their staffs, collected over 57,000.00 to make the Adjutant of 1960 possible. Bill liruehling and Carl Guenther worked on make-up. The members of the Adjutant Staff are indebted to Mr. Manuel Z. Olbes for the long hours he so willingly gave this yearbook so that it could match and surpass the high standard of tjuality achieved in the past.
