THE NINETEEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY EIGHT ADJUTANT THE CEILEINEUS MESSAGE To the Graduating Class: Two conflicting sets of emotions arise within my heart as each Commencement season comes around. One is the gratification I feel over the achievements you have made in your high school years, the growth and develop- ment I see in those fine bodies of yours since the first time l saw you in your school life when, in some cases, you were only eight or nine years old and taking up the lowest grade work the school offered while now you are tall, erect, splendidly developed, real men, the changes I have noticed in your pro- cesses of thinking and reasoning, and, best of all, your growth in appreciation of the finer things of the spiritual and char- acter sides of your life. On the other side, is the feeling of sorrow on your leaving for institutions of higher learning, the breaking of home ties, the loss of opportunity to serve you and to help you in the same intimate and friendly way, the anxiety that I feel just as your own parents are anxious for your health, happiness and general success in your future endeavors, when we want so much and are so ambitious for you. So, good-byel dear fellows, I shall always prize your friendship and look back with tender memories upon the happy' days gone by. Your true friend, THOMAS A. DAVIS. '4
