To all ATHS Students and Faculty: This year was quite unusual in the back corner of the Accounting Room where the 1987-88 TROJAN was created. It was an emotional time full of excite- ment, worry, anticipation, happiness, and sadness. Throughout the year, events were scheduled, ballgames were won, students created memories, and pictures were taken to relive it all. Finally, the 1987- 88 year came to a close; the yearbook staff's job was done. All the students said goodbye for the sum- mer, and some seniors said goodbye forever. Gradu- ates are sad to see their friends go, but leaving ATHS for more challenging lives meant joy for many of them. This 1987-88 TROJAN is a 96-page summary of these times and feelings in our lives. We, as a year- book staff, tried to submit a photo of everyone and tried to capture as many of these unforgettable memories as possible. We hope we succeeded. On behalf of the staff, we would like to thank our advisors. Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Roberts. A thank you is also extended to all the other faculty members who allowed us to interrupt their classes by taking photo- graphs, etc. And to the terrific staff, thanks for your cooperation, ingenious ideas, and the extra effort it took to produce this year’s annual. A S N 0 N wQ I R E C T I O N Advisor: Ms. Miller Guest speakers teach some serious business. Earlier this school year, the English IV students who were practicing roundtable discussions, began to debate our school's need for a drug awareness student support group. Originally just an idea, the students began to think seriously about the project. Illinois schools are offered $100 to help them begin these types of programs, so it was decided to take advantage of this funding. A group was selected from the two English classes to organize this club, and the first steps were to discuss possible topics for meetings and choose a title for the organization. In an attempt to get some student input, the group placed two boxes in the study hall and urged students to submit topic or activity ideas and title suggestions. A $10 prize prompted a good response for the title box, and from these entries, the group selected the name STAND (Stu- dents Taking a New Direction). Ms. Bohlen submitted the winning entry. The new organization held its first official meeting on Tuesday, March 1. The speakers were Chad Stevens and Maureen Paraventi of WLRW, who presented a program on the dangers of smokeless tobacco. The second and final meeting of the year was held on May 6 and featured Mike Boose and Debbi Simmers who presented their program on drinking and driving. STAND, which plans to provide both drug awareness and student support, hopes to continue into future years. James—the bubble gum champ! Can he make It two years in a row? Don’t ever forget all the great times we’ve shared with each other! 1 love you, Rhonda! Love, Ranae Missy, In 1970 1 rocked you in my arms and dreamed of what 1988 would be like for you. The years have past so quickly and you have been more than 1 ever could have dreamed back then. You are a beautiful person and 1 don’t mean just on the outside. You have made my life beautiful. Keep on smiling, keep on shining. Wherever you go, my love goes with you. Every night 1 thank God for sending me you. Mom Amos, My dear Amy Buddy who is such a great tickler—Thanks! Due to the fact that we always had so much to share with each other must not have left us much time to pose for pictures—because 1 couldn't find one. Whenever something strange would happen to me, 1 always knew 1 could go to my Amos because 1 knew you could relate or had already experienced it. It all started with Jay and Neil and FOR NOW we're ending with Mark and Spank who both prove to be wonderful. (Must be the age.) You know how bragging always brings trouble though. Quit it You know one of those—Well—you know, Ya! that” Thanks for sharing all that—even in the library. Erin, we’re busy in here!” Through all of our deep discussions and even a few trips down Sheri’s stairs, we are survivors. 1 wish you the best of luck and never forget me Amos. I’ll miss you. Thanks for the pizzas, McDon- alds, and for sharing your Deve Bean, the 4th hour P.E., memories, powder, the Stever-Daver, shopping trips, colored tennis shoes, Where do I go? , all the noon snacks, and for our Sadie Hawkin's memories with Jay. Also, I must say you are quite the golfer. How about our prom memories and Mark. Whether we were in Springfield or Paxton, we always had fun. You have played such an im- portant part in my life, Sher-Bear, and I yub you for it all. Never forget me honey and always re- member Nushen can stop us from bein' Twinks. I guess one never realizes how important TRUE friends are until they're gone. I'll miss you Sheri. I Love Ya, Em Amy, Missy, Sheri, The times we shared at our table” are some of my best memories. Thanks for the laughter and tears; the jokes and counseling. Sheri, you always knew how to brighten my day or at least give me a chocolate fix! Missy, you always had the answer and were ready to slide-dive-and hurt each other. Amy, what can I say? You livened up my Junior year. Don’t forget the Roy- al, St. Joe, or Penfield boys! I would like to leave all of you with this: If you treasure the beauty that shows all around you and try to add some of your own, Enjoy the companionship others can give you, yet value your moments alone ... If you honor opinions that differ from yours yet stand up for what you believe. Admire the accomplishments others have made, and take pride in what you can achieve ... If you love those around you and love yourself, too, if your spirit is eager and free ... Then you know that it means to live life to its fullest and be the best you” you can be.
