Far Right: Spanish Club’s master chef checks to see if his Stunt Night Armstrong’s second annual Stunt Night was deemed as successful as the first by all those in attendance. The eve- ning began with a Chili Supper sponsored by the Spanish Club. Good food was followed by good times, and the sparks were flying as the Trojans fired up for a Home- coming victory. The Armstrong Band provided the mu- sic, and various organizations and classes presented spirit- building skits. Cheers and chants were led by the Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleaders. The Sophomores walked away with the spirit stick, and the Juniors claimed the longest spirit chain. At the sight of the smoke from the burning Artesian filling the air, everyone was assured that the Trojans would come out on top Homecoming Night. Rhonda R. was Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening. Chris E., lead role in the FFA skit, shares his secrets for growing Trojan spirit plants with uneducated farmers. The band, directed by Mr. Kelly, lifted the Trojans’ spirits. Phyllis B. becomes an Artesian well in the GAA skit. Tammy B., what’s behind the curtain? The Artesian’s future looks grim as the flames consume his body. Kim O., Sara F., Mark F., and John B., the percussion section of the ATHS band, totally absorbed in their “work”. Heights of Homecoming '76 “One of These Nights” was the theme for Armstrong’s 26th annual homecoming. For many November 27 was the night. Intrigue and excitement hung over the crowd as the Trojans downed the Artesians in an overtime win of 77-70. Then romance and tenderness prevailed, as couples danced under the starry decorations to the music of Eclipse. The name was ideal, for like that strange movement of moon and sun, so the band lent an air of mystery to the entire eve- ning. Neither Camelot nor Rhett Butler’s arms could have held more enchantment than our transformed cafeteria-gym did on Homecoming night. Stairway to Heaven On. with the dance! Let joy be unconfined: No sleep till morn, when Youth and Pleasure meet To chase the glowing Hours with flying feet. —Lord Byron Stairway to Heaven Prom '77 was a night that those who attended will long remember. The sight of this “heaven- ly evening's activities was indeed close to the stars—20th floor of Century 21 in Urbana. After the buffet supper, hard to enjoy with visions of gravy spots marring the laps of rented tuxedoes and elegant gowns, everyone settled back to listen to the traditional pro- phecy and will. As the music by Freewheelin' filled the air, couples shyly began to make their way toward the dance floor. Their shyness soon vanished, though, and as the night went on the dancers multiplied in number. At the magic hour. I 2:00 midnight, not a yawn in sight-every- one went their separate ways—some to parties, some to breakfast, some to bed-but no matter the destination, one thing was certain there was not a prom-goer happy to see the evening of May 7 come to an end. Baseball Zeam Armstrong baseball finished the year with honor and respectability, winning five of their nine games and tying for third in the Iroquois Conference. The four losses were lost by a meager total of six runs. The freshmen class sported nine eager beginners on the field this year who contributed immensely to the team’s five wins. Our star player, however, was a senior. Lorin Schluter, Arm- strong’s Babe Ruth, finished the season with a 640% batting average and a spot on the All-Conference team. Coach Hulfachor’s team consisted of Lorin Schluter, Jeff McElhoe, Doug McElhoe, Rodney Buhr, Brian Remington, Dan James, Jeff Tucker, Chris Cler, Larry Goodhue, Larry Roberts, Scott James, Matt Fleming, Jamie Miles, Jeff Withers, Tracy Roberts, John Butler, Leon Schluter, Tim Sandy, Eric Cornelius.
