While rubbing the dust off the lamp, he heard a rumbling sound - from within. Suddenly, REX FRYE popped out and said, Your wish is my command. After recovering consciousness, Steve said, My wish is to see my former classmates of 1966. So Rex turned into a fly- ing carpet, and Steve began his journey. The Trojans turned in a similar performance against ABL on November 19, clinching that victory by twenty-one. points, 64 to 43. After tumbling Rankin by fifteen, 56 to 41, in our Homecoming game, the Armstrong quintet marched on and dumped Potomac by a score of 74 to 59 and Georgetown by a mildly surprising eighteen points, 73 to 55. Still unbeaten, the potent Arm- strong crew overcame a fourth quarter scoring surge and knocked off the favored St. Joseph-Odgen Spartans, 55 to 49. Then the Trojans moved to Rossville where they kept a perfect record by downing the Bobcats, 80 to 51. Armstrong swept the East Lynn Hornets, 75 to 57 in the Chrisman Holiday Tour- nament. The Trojans went on to a practically duplicate performance against Westville, 71 to 50. Also, that victory gave Armstrong the right to meet Catlin for the title. The Armstrong quintet proved itself worthy by stopping the Catlin five, 81 to 71, thereby clinching the title. Proceeding from Chrisman with a perfect 10-0 record, the Trojans raised it to 11-0 by smashing Uniy High, 86 to 48. After downing Catlin by nineteen points, 91 to 72, Armstrong met a surprisingly pesky Ridgefarm team, but again proved their strength and downed the Bulldogs, 72 to 69. The Trojans then went into the county tournament as the only undefeated team in Vermilion County. The Trojans squeaked past Westville in a hair-raising overtime. 78 to 77. Armstrong then downed Potomac for the second time during the season, 55 to 47 in order to meet Hoopeston for the title. But then came to disheartening loss. The Trojans fell to Hoopeston, 54 to 49. Armstrong reverberated from that defeat by trimming the Bismarck Blue Devils, 53 to 43. Showing their early season poise, Armstrong scorched past a much improved Potomac Artesian team, 80 to .71, bringing the season record to 17-1. The Trojans then blitzed West- ville for the third time during the season, 73 to 59. After dropping Jamaica, 78 to 61, Armstrong tripped Rankin, 61 to 47. The Trojans upped their season mark to 21-1 by dumping Young America in a 104 to 69 score. The mighty Trojans kept the ball rolling by routing the Homer Rockets, 99 to 58. Armstrong then scorched Milford, 106 to 73 to end the regular scheduled season undefeated. Armstrong met rival Potomac for the fourth time during the season and stepped over them, 68 to 59 in order to meet the Sheldon Rams for the district title. The outcome of that game was 70 to 59 in favor of Arm- strong. Armstrong met Milford in the first game at the regional. The Bearcat's hope of defeating the Trojans by using slow-down tactics were stymied and the Trojans won, 31 to 26. in the second round, Armstrong came from fourteen points behind to trim the Central of Clifton Comets, 76 to 62 for the regional championship and the right to meet Paxton in the opening round of the Champaign sectional. Against 6' 8 Bill Hansen and his Mustangs, Armstrong remained in the state title run in a 52 to 51 cliff-hanger. But then the unknown Little David school met a tough Urbana five and went down fighting, 63 to 54. The Armstrong Trojans ended their 1965-66 season with 29 wins, 2 losses, and memories of Armstrong Township High School's greatest basketball team. 3 Court 4 Aetion 5 Where did you come from!
