♦♦♦ RESUME ttt Published by Senior Class Armstrong Twp. High School Armstrong, Illinois With humility, we the class of '65 dedi- cate this Resume to the memory of our beloved late President, John F. Kennedy. It is our feeling that this man has in- fluenced our lives more than any other individual we have known. At the mention of his name, we shall always recall these past four years, his fleeting wispof glory, which we cannot forget. We have selected the following, which express best that which we feel. The young, perhaps, felt his loss the deepest because John F. Kennedy had a special appeal for the young. It was as the Harvard University chaplain told the students at special memorial services: “We took courage from his courage, and we were lifted up by the grandeur of his vision. Our common life has been diminished, our joy darkened, our light tarnished.” ( A JOHN F. KENNEDY MEMORIAL: Macfadden-Bar- tell Corporation, 1964.) Our roll of honour is long, but it holds no nobler figure. He will stand to those of us who are left as an incarnation of the spirit of the land he loved....He loved his youth, and his youth has become eternal. Debonair and brilliant and brave, he is now part of that immortal England which knows not age or weariness or defeat. (Pilgrim’s Way: John Buchan.) “The rudder of our ship was he, our castle’s corner-stone: We thought you would not die- -we were sure you would not go, And leave us in our utmost need to Cromwell’s cruel blow- - Sheep without a shepherd, when the snow shuts out the sky- Oh, why did you leave us, Owen? Why did you die?” (Thomas Davis) ♦♦♦ SENIORS ♦ ♦ ♦ W STUDENT COUNCIL JIM EUGENE HENRY Jim Student Council 4; Annual Staff 4, pher 1; Baccalaureate Marshall 3. Our class president. MIKE CLER, is a traveling salesman for THE GABBY HAYES HAT MANUFACTURING COMPANY. In looking for new customers, Mike decides to look up his old classmates. The first classmate he sees is RANDEE ACTON who is cleaning out stalls in her husband's sale barn in Pen- field. Here he also meets LINDA POYNER who is the owner of the Penfield-Gifford Elevator which she recently remodeled, raising all the doorways for the benefit of her tall employees. Also in the neighborhood is SHARON DUITSMAN who is running an escort service with all her old boy friends. Next he goes to Armstrong. Here SHIRLEY BOOHER is running a janitorial supply company for her uncle with cut-rate prices. Also in this area is Mike’s brother-in-law, DENNY KISSACK. He finds Denny still herding his flock of sheep with his '56 Buick. Before leaving Armstrong. Mike looks up MICK ZINDARS who is currently serving as president of the Coon Hunters Association after several unsuccessful campaigns for that office. Mike next heads for Potomac. Here he finds another classmate, UZ TUCKER, who is now mayor of that thriving village. She tells him that JIM KING is working in Danville. When Mike looks up Jim, he finds that he is a 'moonlighter. During the day he is a No-Doz salesman, and at night he tutors Typing I students. Mike then drives to Champaign where he finds DON DOBBINS. Don is now the head basketball coach for the University of Illinois. After leaving Don, Mike decides to go out to the fairgrounds to see RITA POWELL. Rita is still a'fender-bender who would rather fight than switch. Mike leaves Champaign for Chicago, and on his way he stops at the Onarga Military Academy. Here WILMA SAATHOFF is teaching Home Ec to the cadets. In Chicago, the first classmate he finds is JOYCE ROESS- LER who is running an Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She tells Mike that JOHN BOYLE and BEV HEDRICK are also in town. John is teaching a charm course at the Patricia Stevens Modeling School. Bev is modeling red hair dye for the Carolyn Rademacher Schluter Beauty Salon. Mike then leaves for Indianapolis. Here he finds SHIRLEY BOTEN. She is the first woman driver in the Indianapolis 500. She has entered her old '64 Impala in this year's race. Shirley tells Mike that her cousin, NANCY BOTEN, is now living on a hog farm in Siberia and is raising a large family of redheaded kids. Mike decides Siberia is too far away, so he heads for New York City instead. In New York City Mike finds MARY RUTH JARBOE who is the current editor of the NEW YORK TIMES. Also in the city is DANN PAYNE. Dann is now an artist for JACK JILL. Dann sends Mike on to Washington. D.C. Here in the capital he finds BERNICE LOSCHEN. Bernice is working as a lab technician at Walter Reed Hospital. Also in town is MARY ANN JOHNSTON. She is the first woman chairman of the Democratic National Committee and is currently managing the campaign of Ted Kennedy for President. Mike also discovers that DAN ARMSTRONG holds a very important position in Washington. Dan is the mechanic who tunes up the White House staff cars. Upon talking to Dan, Mike learns that JOYCE CLARK is a Peace Corps worker and is currently building homes for penguins in the Antarctic. While in the East, Mike looks up GARY HOVELN who is teaching advanced math at Vassar Women's Col- lege. Gary tells him that he has sealed down now and hasn't been wild boar hunting in years. From here Mike takes a plane to London. In London he finds TERRIE JARVIS. Terrie is an undercover agent in partnership with James Bond. Her theme song is From Bob With Love. From London Mike flies to Mongolia where he finds JIM HENRY digging up dinosaur bones. Jim tells him he has recently heard from LINDA ELLETT, and that she and her husband, who is a general, are in Leopoldville, Congo. Deciding the Congo is still too dangerous, Mike flies to Hawaii, In Hawaii Mike finds JANET PRIBBLE running a kindergarten for her grandkids. She sends Mike to Holly- wood to look for ROBERT RAMM. It seems Bob is now the head trumpeter for the Lawrence Welk Band. After talking with Bob, Mike heads for Boston. In Boston he finds JOHN CAMP who is now a boxer training for the heavyweight championship fight. BRUCE VINSON is his trainer. From here Mike decides to go to Florida and visit JIM and JUDY (SAPPENFIELD ) ROBERTS on their alligator ranch. Mike didn't sell many hats (except to John Boyle who ordered two dozen), but he did have a very enjoyable time visiting with all his old friends. CAMPAIGN ’64 As a project in Civics class all the seniors took part in an all-school political campaign just before election time. We all had a great deal of fun regardless of which side we were on. From this experi- ence we were able to get some idea of what is involved in a national election and what it is like to really support a candidate. Our week-long activity ended with an all-school mock election and a sigh of relief by everyone. The following snapshots are of some of the campaign activity. Mary Ann, do you have that closed in feeling? Campaign ’64 FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION ♦ ♦♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ttt JO AN ROTIGEL B. A. , Wayne State University M. The Armstrong Trojan baseball team got off to a rather poor start this year. However, the team bounced back and played heads-up ball to win six games in a row. They ended the season by losing a hard fought 1 to 0 heartbreaker. Winning that game would have meant a first place tie with East Lynn. The team had a 6-3 conference record for the '64 season. However, in conference play they have earned a very impressive 14-4 record for the combined '63-'64 seasons. The team has worked hard and played well under the fine coaching of Coach Larry Hulfachor. We ail ap- preciate their efforts. Thanks a lot fellas and keep up the good work.
