Senior History Beginning our high school days” in the fall of 1954 was an unforgettable experience for us. As a timid Freshman Class of thirty-five students, we began to adjust ourselves to the high school program. We raised some much-needed money by selling chances on groceries and homemade candy at the Carnival in the spring. With a little more confidence, we began school in the fall of 1955 as a smaller class of thirty-one Sophomores. Our main event was sponsoring the school Christmas Party. For this, we presented a skit based on a Santa Claus theme. During our Junior year, we began to shoulder more responsibilities. We started the year off by selling magazine subscriptions and candy to finance the Junior-Senior Prom. The Prom, which was given in the spring, turned out better than our hi iest hopes with the theme Paris by Starlight. We also presented our Junior Play. Me and My Shadow. which was very successful. As a Senior Class of twenty-eight students, we began school in the fall of 1957 with graduation as our goal. Our elected officers for the year were: Jim Fourez. president; Jerry Brown, vice-president; Chuck Gehrt, secretary; Jerry Davis, treasurer; and Ronnie Doan, reporter. Miss Hanebutt and Miss Miller sponsored our class during the year. The Senior Class, diplomas unfurled, now go forth to face the world. This last will and testament was written and witnessed on the 6th of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and fifty seven in the presence of- - 17 Red Skeleton and Zorro Class Prophecy Here it is 1978 and we have decided to take a trip around the United States to see our former classmates of 1958. We go along the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Times Square in New York. When we arrive we see huge lights telling of JIM FLETCHER'S success as a new Elvis Presley singer. After enjoying his performance we decide to take in a night club. We go to the brightest spot in town and we see in big lights DAVE SCONCE’S Night Club with his Pancho-Sconco's. Having just been seated and waited on we see a disorderly man being thrown out by The Bouncer, LARRY BUHS. We finish our meal and continue our trip to Washington. We watch a session of Congress where Representative RONNIE DOAN has broken the filabuster record by reading a Beetle Bailey Comic Book thirty times. After seeing our Representative we go to the ballpark to see the Washington Senators beat the Yankees by the no-hit pitching of MAURICE HAGEN and Home Run King WAYNE WILKEN. Manager ELMER WILKEN is very pleased with his team's success. We travel West through Kentucky and stop at Withering Heights to eat and see MARY CLEMENTZ as a wait- ress. She tells us that JANIS FRYE is the town's first lady since she married the Mayor. We go through Nebraska where JOHN CLINGAN, the local auctioneer, is selling DEWAIN MOORE'S sheep. De- wain tells us that TED CUNDIFF is a good veterinarian and has saved many of his sheep. We turn south and travel through Whitesands, New Mexico, where JERRY BROWN, the nation's chief rocket scientist, is working on Project J. D. Jerry tells us that he is sending the explorer, JERRY DAVIS, to the moon. Now we go on our way to Colorado where we see a huge cloud of smoke and we investigate. We see R1T A ATKINS trying to put out a campfire that got out of hand. We notify the local Forest Ranger and find that the Ranger is JIM FOUREZ. After Jim puts out the fire we continue on our way to California. We pass through Salt Lake Flats where we find MERVIN JONES running a fuel-injection Maytag Powered Lakester. We can go 47:38 mile per hour in 1 2 mile. On the outskirts of Los Angeles we see a million dollar Housing Project called the Double G. We find that it is the GEHRT and GREER Construction Company. These rich contractors tell us that RACHEL JARBOE is a house- wife living on Main Street. As we turn the corner, a car runs a stop sign and piles into the side of us. We get out to see what happened and are surprised to see that it is HELEN WERN1GK. Apparently no one is hurt, but we go to the hospital and have X-rays taken. GERTIE BUCK takes the X-rays and sends us to the nurse, EVELYN ELLETT, who tells us everything is alright. As our car is in sad shape, we take it to DORSEY'S Repair Shop. We make arrangements with PHIL’S chief welder and body man, LOYAL MABRY, to have our car straightened out. While we are waiting for our car we take in a premier performance starring ELAINE WILKEN in her movie of Around the Block in 20 Minutes. After we get out of the show we decide to spruce up a bit so we go to John's Beauty Salon and we see JOHN CURTIS, who is owner and Chief Barber. While he is giving us a haircut, NANCY ROSS gives us a manicure. We say good- bye and return to Dorsey's Body Shop where we pick up our still battered car and start home. We are happy to have seen all of our old classmates and we wish them luck. 18 Carolyn Ashcraft Ruthann Ault Don Booher Leon Bus boom Ethel Che no we th Gerald Chesnut Donna Cornell Fred Curtis John Dewey Dick Fredrickson Corrine Frye Tom Gordon Connie Gossett Juniors Andy Harrison Lawrence Hayn 20 Gary Hannagan Ervin Hesterberg Mary Jones LeRoy Kenney Jean Piatt George Powell Norman Rademacher Larry Thornton Carolyn Tucker Arlen Reynolds Eileen Rocker LXrdley Severs Jackie Tucker Peggy Vinson Class Officers Jim Ward Marvin Wemigk President.................Donna Cornell Vic e-President........Carolyn Ashcraft Secretary.........................Peggy Vinson Treasurer...........................Tom Gordon Reporter.................Jackie Tucker Advisers.....................Mrs. Stahl Mr. England 21 Goin' Steady, the Junior Class Play, was presented November 15, in the school gymnasium. Baseball The 57-58 baseball team, coached by Mr. Aukamp, had a very successful season. Taking first place honors in the North Vermilion County Baseball Conference and second place in the play-offs, the team boosts a record of 8 wins and only 1 loss. Coach Aukamp largely credits this record to the boys' constant efforts and hard work in practice. Batting practice during noon hours accounted for the high .386 team batting average. As a result of this season, an attractive combined trophy was added to our school's show case. 56 The Benchwarmers Shine, Boy, Shine 57 Go! Armstrong Go!
