To them we say both great and small-- You're always ready to answer a call From a person in need; You are a friend to all. You are up bright and early With the rising sun Working on till the day is done. You are more than willing To help repay Any favors received along life's way. You are always lending a helping hand, For we boys and girls, you understand, Have had our problems; we must say That you have been backing us every day. And as you go about your daily task You have given us more Than we ever should ask With your love and devotion You have been most sincere, As we carried on our four years here. And as this year wanes and comes to a close, We will cherish the memory of you, Our dear farmer friends In the days gone by. And the way you have helped Us at Armstrong High. And we salute you Till the setting sun In appreciation of what you have done. 2 --Gladys Boggess Occi 'P’tutccfral It is with a great deal of sincere appreciation that I again have the privilege of making a few statements to the students of the Armstrong Town- ship High School, their parents, and other patrons. During these days and years of somewhat uncertainty for our students as they leave high school, I might remind them of the purpose of education; namely, the making of good citizens--morally, socially, economically, politically--by giving each student the opportunity to satisfy his needs, in- terests, and abilities. This purpose should be fundamental in the expres- sion of the peoples' desires for their schools, in the schoolboards regula- tions on various aspects of the educational system, and in the educator's operation of the school itself. May time prove young friends, that we in the driver's seat have steered you along the straight, durable roads that will lead to happy, useful lives. And as you mature may you carry the torch on to still greater heights. J. Benj. Walrich 'rtyiy l School We, the students wish to thank the school board for the won- derful job of redecorating the gymnasium and other improve- ments made throughout the school. £ £,duc ztto i LEFT TO RIGHT: Dwight Rice, president; Paul Ludwig,CharlesBrown. This last will and testament was written and witnessed on the 6th day of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-four in the presence of-- Marilyn Monroe, Rock Hudson, Jerry Lewis 29 @Cei44 You can never imagine what will happen to your class in ten years. As the spirit of the class of '55 it was in- teresting to see how my former classmates had done on this big earth. I had to cross the ocean to Paris to find KATHY ATKINS. She is a dress designer there. Most people say she is as good as Dior was during our high school years, although she isn't encouraging the flat look. Did you know that some of your old classmates are now in Africa? Little DAVID JARVIS is a white elephant hunter in South Africa. He is better known to the natives as Muscles Jarvis. BOB PFLUGMACHER is working with the conservation department in the Sahara Desert. They are now working on a big project for the watering of camels, something like a fueling station. Good luck, Robert! From here let's go back to the United States to visit some more of our former classmates. LEON DENTON is happily married and lives in Lafayette. He is very successful in the candle business and his best customer is Liberace. LOUISE McCLAIN is teaching English in a high school in Indiana. She is also happily mamed toaHoo- sier. We find many of our old classmates living around Armstrong. EVERETT BUSSARD is now farming north of Pen- field in Clerville. He is happily married to an old schoolmate. NORMA ELLIS is a reporter for the newspaper in Penfield. She also writes jokes for someof theT.V. shows. GAYLE SMITH is a contractor in Armstrong. His fav- orite pastime is takingSunday drives to Lafayette. RICHARD MURRELL is now farming north of Gifford on his father's farm. He is also the proud father of two little Mirrels. The former RITA LAFLEN is now a famous movie star and has changed her name to Marcia Moth. Her studio bills her as the second Debbie Reynolds. She has also married a singer as Debbie did. SHIRLEY KENNEY is seen quite often on colored T.V. lately. She plays the Lady villain on a continued show called Boo . CHRISTINE BOGESS is playing the saxophone for the Philharmonic Orchestra in Boston. Mrs. Frankenstein is the pen name of BARBARA EARLY. She is writing mystery novels which are in great demand. DORIS GREER is the marching in- structor at the West Point Academy for boys. Of course she is enjoying her work very much. What's this! The formerSHIRLEY FRYE isnow the co-owner of the Holtville Chemical Company. She is mar- ried to Mr. Holt, the President, and they have given us many useful inventions. The former ANN BROWN is now the owner of the U Shape It” Sweater shop. She is also raising a family of four. PHYLLIS CAIN is hunting the bones of prehistoric animals. Sheisalso still hunting a man. CLARA HESTERBERG is our lady farmer. She is rais- inga fine herd of Banguse goats which she allows to graze in the hills of Dogtown. CHARLES VAUGHN is running a small, out of the way, place called the Gurgler . Of course his attractive wife is a great asset to the place. Cheerleading in school turned out to be a great help to DONNA MOSSON. She is now a cheerleader for the Cornfield Canaries , a professional football team. ERVIN OLSON is the manager of a night club with dancing, dining, and floorshows. Ervin likes his job at “Hernando's Hidaway” especially the floorshows. CHARLES POYNER studied medicine after high school but it seems as though most of his patients turned out to be “old nags . One of our classmates turned out to be a nurse. CAROL SAATHOFF is the head nurse at the Kill Em or Cure Em” Hos- pital. I believe the percentage is now 49 5k lives and 51 51) dies. Well, as you can see most of them have done pretty good. Aren't you quite surprised! 30 Donna M Norma E, Shirley K Louise M Shirley F Doris G Christine B Chuck P Barbara E Clara H Robert P Carol S 31 FLAG CUSTODIANS Norma Ellis Doris Greer Richard Murrell Clara Hesterberg Kathy Atkins Donna Mosson Mr. Pemberton--Advisor PENF1ELD LIVESTOCK COMMISSION Livestock Sale Every Saturday-10:30 Livestock is a business with us Phone 22 Penfield, Illinois Compliments to the class of 55” from GENE DAVIS Collison, Illinois Res.
