UNDERTOW Abby Blackwell, at 38, was a type well known to women: a noble and self-sacrificing exterior, masking a viscious and calcu- lating mincl'-which, like an unrlertow, nearly wreaked disaster before her motives were detected. It is the story of warm, gay Rosalie, and her bitter sister, Abby, who lets secret jealousy get the upper band to such an extent that it seems easy and natural for her to hint haltingly to the ladies' club that she fears for her young sister's mental health. Built of half truths and veiled suggestions, it is the most evil of monsters to combat. Rosalie is fortunately championed by a woman wise enough to see the truth.
