Tbe material accomplisbment is easily recognized and can be inspirational. Tbe appreciation of tbe intangible, bowever, is of a more general nature and tberefore more difficult to inspire. It is rare tbat one among us is capable of activating our minds in botb areas by bis efforts and deeds. Tbis volume is dedicated to sucb a person. I we could measure success only in terms of appreciation, no one could be more successful. If tbere were no way to judge success except by past acbieve- ment and service, be would be more tban successful, always making otbers feel bis warmtb, friendliness, belpfulness, and bumanity.
