In one semester and out the other, where did the year go? The terms '70-71 bore the mark of most college sessions - there were happy moments and sad ones, periods of quiet shattered by delirium. Peo- ple still fell in love and took exams and worried about both. UT Arlington hired new professors, new coach- esg completed one new building and almost anoth- er, expanded academically. In an age of publi- cized ecology, a park was created, trees planted . . . and hopefully, somehow in the crush of cam- pus existence, seeds of learning reached fertile ground. Thatis yearbook tripe. Some of us came here searching for a better life or a better living. Others to escape a hassel with parents or draftboards. Still others to kill time. We arrived impatient for simple answers and dis- covered disturbing new questions. The year was full of surprises and disappoint- ments. Hours wasted absorbing trivia . . . psych- ing out profs collecting secondhand exami- nations . . . exchanging one set of prejudices for another. Knew in September such would be the case. The year was still worth the effort. The university moved forward in '70-71, only to realize how far it had to go. It was an ordinary school year. Unless an inci- dent happened to you that makes it worth remem- bering or keeps you from forgetting. Then it's something special and demands an- other look. '
