In December of 1964, students at ASC learned of a proposed move by Texas A8:M University to incorporate all four schools within its system into one closely l-cnit super university. The proposal included changing the name of ASC to Texas A8zM at Arlington. Opposition to the plan unified the student body throughout the year. Arlington State College's efforts to separate itself from the Texas A8cM University system reached a successful conclusion on Friday. Arlington's growing baby found its final name in 1967 when the University of Texas Regents, with legislative approval, changed the school's name to the University of Texas at Arlington. From the first block of land oc- cupied by 75 students, the college has sprouted into 270 acres with 338,000,000 worth of facilities, these are filled with 13,000 mostly commuter students instructed by a faculty of 595.
